Depends on how serious Bloom is about getting us there. So with that in mind, it's not beyond the realms of possibility but it's unlikely.

That said...just close your eyes and imagine if we did get there and drew Barca at the Amex...

I have always said to anyone that cared to listen that I thought our natural position was really a decent Championship side with maybe the occasional foray into the premiership and possibly a decent run in the cups once in a while.

These are my thoughts. And that will be fine. And as pointed out - we need to get out this division first. There is many a slip twixt cup and lip.

Do you believe Brighton & Hove Albion FC can play in the Champions League, Head & Heart?

Head: Possible but ...
Heart: Within 10 years Champions of Europe.

Not a hope in hell of either.

Embarrassing thread alert

It's right up there with Sheffield Weds fans' saying "We're ready to take this league by storm".

Will the champions league still exist in 10 years time?

I somehow doubt we will be in the top 4 though, look at the money clubs up their spend and their stadium capacity. If we are in the position of a Wigan or Stoke I think I'll take it, although success being staying up must get pretty depressing ever year

No f***ing chance.

However, in 5 years i believe we will be a top championship club pushing for promotion to the top flight.

There is absoutely no reason why in five years time we're not doing a Fulham and challenging for a Europa league spot if that's what it's called but Champions League is a vast leap beyond that now and therefore not achievable without a Man City scenario.

This is laughable.
10 Years Surviving in the Premiership is a possibility.
I doubt we'll EVER get in the Chumps league

anyone who says "no chance", or "you're mad if you say yes"... why not?

we have a chance of getting to the Prem, right? once there we have a chance of a successfull season while others dont perform (see Spurs 2009/10 season). then theres the time frame, alot can and will change in 10 years. in 1999/2000 season, Fulham were in the same league as us now... 10 years later they were in the Europa Final.

it's unlikly, but its possible.

Until recently I thought the premiership would be unachieveable for a club like ours, but with sound backing, a decent stadium and a class manager, why shouldn't we emulate Blackpool, Reading, Wigan or West Brom? Enjoy the ride for a season or two and then probably settle back to our natural level in the Championship.

To be honest I don't look at the "top end" of the football pyramid with too much envy. As Brighton fans we've learned to appreciate success on a smaller scale. For me, just seeing the club compete at a stadium like the Amex, hopefully in the second tier of English football, will feel like winning the Champions League.

To be fair ANYTHING could happen. We might not exist in 10 years time! Luckily Champions League football is just as unlikely.

English sides that have qualified for the champions league in its entire 19 year history: Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Blackburn, Leeds, Tottenham.

So No.

On the other hand, 44 clubs have played in the premier league over the same time including: Bradford, Watford, Barnsley, Swindon, Burnley, Derby, Reading, Coventry, Hull, Blackpool, Ipswich, Oldham, Crystal Palace, Wigan, Norwich, Sheffield United, QPR

Now that's certainly possible

That about sums it up. I really, really think that we should be waiting for promotion to become a done deal before getting into fantasy football territory. For me happiness will be when a play off place is guaranteed, followed by joy when it seems to mathematically probable that automatic promotion will happen, increasing to delight when it is certain (I remember being a very happy bunny in 2000/01 when all the results dropped into place meaning that were promoted with 6 games left) and total ecstasy if were are crowned champions of the old third division (sorry to remind everyone of that).

Champions league, no...Europa league, now thats possible. Just look at Fulham last season, a club of what I would consider very like ours in many ways. Tony Bloom is our very own Al Fayed . It wasnt that many years ago Fulham were in the bottom league playing to crowds of 3,000 odd..Think Fulham are a very good example of what can be achived without the multi billionaire owners. Just a very wealthy one, signing good players on good wages without going overboard.

Obviously we're still in League 1 and only two-thirds of the way into the season but, for the sake of this thread, I can't see us ever getting into Champions League because we're not enough of a global name with sufficient potential to attract the sort of investment required.

The most likely route would be if there was a 5th Champions League place awarded to the FA Cup winners.

That said, it's perfectly conceivable that if all went to plan Bloom could sell to a second tier investor - such as a Randy Lerner or a David Gold-type figure - that could see us get into Europe. There's nothing to stop a well-run, well-managed club getting to 7th in the Prem.

If you treat Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Villa as "The Big 7" most likely to get into Europe then last season was the only time since the start of the Prem that these clubs have occupied the top 7 spots. Indeed, it is extraordinary if a "lesser" club doesn't finish in the Top 7, even allowing for those periods when Newcastle and Leed had their days in the sun.

Even in the era of Champions League we've seen Charlton, West Ham, Fulham, Bolton, Boro, Blackburn and Ipswich all make the Top 7.
