Switched over to "normal" itv during the Spain match to remind myself why I pay for HD. It was unwatchable.

I had Sky HD for a year and when I rang up to cancel they asked me why, I said 'I honestly don't know what the HD channels are so always watch bbc1 on 101'

Not much difference anyway IMO

BBC1 HD and BBC HD (will become BBC2 HD after the Olympics) have recently started to broadcast at 1920 X 1080i and with the current encoders the picture quality has gone back to what it used to be before it went "platform neutral" (The picture quality on satellite had to reduced to match what was the best Freeview could churn out) BBC1 SD is blurry compared to BBC1 HD , ITV1 SD is fuzzy compared to ITV1 HD , Channel 4 SD is soft compared to Channel 4 HD , Five SD is over compressed and is artefact ridden compared to a reasonable Five HD. Not all programmes are HD original content so a standard def programme will be upscaled on a HD channel to make it look better but not as good as proper HD.

Seriously ? I wouldn't be without it, for sports in particular.

Whats your take on DVD / Blu-Ray ? Its a bit more of a mixed bag for me as some of the older films converted to blu-ray arn't all that. But the picture definition on the new stuff is unbelievable. Check out Avatar blu-ray, its jawdropping.

Gonna be honest, If home and away or Ghost Whisperer isn't on in my house then Spongebob or Star Wars is. I get shoved to the kitchen to watch football on the laptop and cook dinner and i'll take that :) Never been a fan of films, prefer fact to fiction and the chances of me watching the Discovery channel are slim to none.

I had heard that Sky were implementing the automatic switching of HD channels where possible. So you wouldn't need to turn to BBC1 HD it would just automatically be on for BBC1.

That was ages ago though.

Only in london or with freesat at present, isn't it?

I discovered on Friday that you can now pick up Freeview HD in Brighton, I normally watch Freesat but the strong wind seemed to be blowing the dish around so the signal all but disappeared. I was all ready to put up with mediocre Freeview when a message popped up saying new channels were available and sure enough there were some HD ones.

I'm assuming you either do not have a HD TV, or you're female.

I've discovered females are unable to recognise HD. "Its all the same".

Your right ! They just don't see it. Whereas I can't watch sport or films now if it's not hd. The difference is greater than the switch from black and white to colour.
