BBC South and Meridian - enough is enough?

I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it any more.

I've just sat through a lunchtime news bulletin from BBC South packed with useless nonsense about park and ride buses in Salisbury and other trivial goings-on in Romsey, Andover and Southampton.

When they announced a round-up of the weekend's football, I thought I'd just wait to see the 10 seconds of action from Hartlepool before switching off. There was Bournemouth, Reading, P*rtsm**th, Southampton, and ... that was it - no Albion at all.

Surely the time has come to mount some sort of campaign to replace the "local" news (from as far afield as Bicester and Dorchester these days) with a feed from London. I have far more interest in what's happening in the capital than I have in village fetes in Dorset and Berkshire.

Even if you consider anything that happens north of the A272 irrelevant, you might as well sit through an occasionally interesting story from a place you've heard of rather than more tales of the tedious occurences in the villages around the BBC's Southampton HQ. Now that the entertaining tales of woe from Fratton Park have dried up, there's nothing for us on the Fred Dinenage and Sally Taylor shows.

We march on the offices of Ofcom! Who's with me??

Don't worry once we are in teh top half of the championship, they will be all over the Albion.

On a serious note though - Albion is well on the edge of their region so unfortunately does get overlooked quite a lot.

its alright for you lot , alls i get is how Gillingham is a lovely place to live and the continuing saga of the dartford cabbage thief, police seem to be marrowing down the suspects after 50 daybreak greenhouse to house raids

You can see how it hurts when they have to say something complimentary about the Albion. It's all Reading, Pompey, Saints and Bournemouth for the dull presenters of local tv down here.

Now relegated to Sky Sports News 'Through the night' coverage.

The fact that he has earned his living as a sports presenter for over tenty five years is absolutely incredible.

And as for the local news, the other week they were talking about flood defences in Banbury. That is Banbury in north Oxfordshire, twenty minutes from Warwick and two hours from Brighton. Its bollocks.

It is slightly staggering Brighton and Oxford share the same local news.

According to Wikipedia BBC Oxford has its own news broadcast for the first 15 minutes of the evening news before cutting in to South Today for the last 15 minutes. Surely they can put enough content together for a whole half-an-hour and save us having to hear about the complaints of residents of Bicester or somesuch nonsense.

I'm so glad I don't get BBC South Today anymore, on my Sky package the default region is BBC South East which is predominently Kent biased but has a remarkable amount of Sussex and Albion news compared to South Today. I actually prefer to listen to stuff about Kent and East Sussex rather than bloody Oxfordshire FFS. The northernmost part of the BBC South region is basically the south midlands, why they think anyone in Brighton would be remotely interested in any news there is beyond me. Thinking about it I'm never remotely interested in any 'local' news outside of Sussex so BBC Hampshire (Sorry South) can just f*** right off.

Ditto.

I've only had Sky for the last 6 months and mine is South East. Albion always seems to be the top mention (before Charlton, Gillingham etc).

Anyone with Sky should definitely look to change over to SE.

You would have thought all those Oxford murders that Morse investigated, would take up the whole program on its own.
