Sunday Politics is ending in its current form after today due to BBC cuts, and is to be replaced by regional half hour show.

Daily Politics will also soon end in its current form, to be replaced by Politics Live, a 45-minute “fast-moving, conversational show featuring a blend of political interviews, discussion and video content designed to be shared digitally". They will be encouraging interaction with an online audience and “more shareable content” while making political interviews and discussions more “snappy”.

The BBC Parliament channel is getting some cuts as well.

More cuts to come for BBC News too.

In a time of alternative facts, massive political changes and shambolic leadership, high levels of impartial scrutiny are needed, so I'm sad to see the BBC is having to make such cuts. It's true that times are changing and have changed in terms of how people consume news, but I hope this doesn't result in the (further?) dumbing down of political discourse on the BBC and more short "snappy" sound bites so as to appeal to more to social media users. That said, there is a lot of misinformation shared online, so if more impartial content can reach more people then hopefully this will turn out to be a good thing.

Ah yes, the good old impartial BBC........

Should be rebranded the “ministry of truth” should it not?

Unfortunately the BBC is always there to be shot at as regards impartiality and "dumbing down " . They can never satisfy either side of a debate for long and as such many of the whiners and rabid extremists will see these cuts in service and reporting a victory of sorts for licence payers. I know personally of a pal who fervently believes that the BBC stands for Brussels Broadcasting Corporation and refuses to believe anything they say. However you don't always appreciate what you have until you have lost it, maybe everyone should just get their news and politics from RT for a month ?

Ah yes The Spectator, should be rebranded the magazine of rightwing lies, should it not?

They should be rebranded the magazine of right wing lies if the are a) lying, and b) the lies are for the establishment (right wing).

So, in this case is it true that the BBC obscuficates it’s funding from the EU to its general licence fee paying public?

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/eu_funding

The answer is, yes they do?

Are the lies to protect the BBC establishment and it’s role in U.K. society and political discourse......

Well of course they were.

The fact that the spectator is seeking to expose the BBC in this regard is not right wing, and they should be applauded. For the record I think the laws that protect the BBC are a disgrace, in simple terms they criminalise the poorest part of society for non payment of the licence fee........that should end.

Hardly the sentiment of the right wing is it........know thy enemy.

The bbc is always on a hiding to nothing but on balance is probably the most impartial global news outlet of them all. It is left liberal leaning though, undoubtably and whatever the rules of broadcasting say. Don’t forget the radio output though, there’s often saturation political coverage there.

Says the man who thinks that Yorkshire is about to become an Islamic republic. I'm surprised you have time to post on NSC, what with the constant threat of lions in your garden.

Right wingers tend to think the BBC is biased towards the left, Left wingers tend to think it's biased towards the right. Some presenters (Marr in particular) might be a bit partisan but overall I prefer it to Sky news or Russia Today

I quite like the Daily Politics - it's usually around the time I take break from working, so I decamp from the dining room table to the sofa for an hour. However, usually the first half is interesting and the second is generally fluff, so probably no harm cutting it down.

I have watched DP from the very beginning and have enjoyed it immensely.
There have been times when I have thought that they have chosen a particular line and pushed it to the edge. However, funnily enough I am able to see the trees in the forest and make my own judgements. An example was the Cliff v BBC thread, 20 minutes of a 30 minute news program devoted to showing the public how the BBC was unbiased! Complete hogwash.
However, I saw it and knew it to be so. The DP and SP will be a massive miss, how about dumping the Archers instead....

I'm addicted to news. Sky News is the main channel I watch but will flick between Sky & BBC if a breaking story emerges. Interestingly, I trust BBC more for the truth. Anything in the US is CNN straight away.
Interestingly, if you flick between Sky & BBC at the top of the hour they both show the same stories and spend the same time on each story.

I evidently have less time than you, but then this is merely a football forum, nothing will change because of what I post.

You can either challenge the view expressed, ignore it or post something purile.

That’s how it works kidder.

Right wingers tend to think the BBC is biased towards the left, Left wingers tend to think it's biased towards the right.

If that's the case then the BBC is truly the very best we could ask for from a news outlet.

Trouble is that less and less are watching what they are calling " linear tv", i.e. tune your telly every week to see the broadcast. The millenials binge on Netflicks. Every station wants that audience so less is put into real tv .
Where do they get their news ? ... Facebook , I guess ( sigh! )

Regardless of persuasion, The Spec is total gash though isn't it. Isabel Hardman is generally worth a read but that's about it. The quality of the writing is just so poor.

Cunning Fergus is a Tory wanker though, so hardly a surprise. It's why he quotes the Spectator and supports Brexit like his hero, Jacob Rees-Mogg.

: thumbsup:

Now I’m pretty sure I was banned from the Brexit thread a year ago for using similar language, when faced with Tory shills advocating free market capitalism via the EU.

You know the type, Dominic Greive, Anna Soubry, Chuka Ummuna, Tony Blair, Peter Mandelson, Nick Clegg, Vince Cable et al.

Not Jezza though, proper socialist him........he’ll get us out.

Something we can both agree on.
