Commentator mentioned this several times tonight during ManUre Rangers game.

My pal Bob with whom I watch telly football was livid.

A horrendous moment in history when countless young men died, is not equivalent to a Europa league football match.
What the actual f***.

I appreciate this may seem like small beer.
No doubt Robbie Savage will call the last 10 minutes a Holocaust for Rangers.

Pretty certain that there have been several previous matches between Scottish teams and English teams and they have always been referred to as the 'Battle of Britain'.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it and certainly don't see it as comparison to what happened in 1940.
The first one I can recall was Celtic v Leeds in the 1970 European Cup semi-final

Reading your post I thought you were annoyed than they were claiming it's a Battle of Britain game when it's two of the shittiest teams.

I don't think I find it offensive, but it is very cringe. A bit like when Albion v Palace is called the 'M23 derby'. Who, outside of those commentating, is going to make that reference ? The tabloids, perhaps. But that says it all really.

I do rather wish commentary was like it was all those decades ago. I'm a fan of modern football. But I think there's too much chat and tabloid talk going on. A kind of dumbing down.

I watched Wrexham v Birmingham City instead. I wonder what that would have been called.

The Hollywood Derby, according to a lot of the media.
