I play most saturdays and support the Tigers (the only reason being my dad is a Bath fan so I naturally had to support their rivals whe picking a team in the early 90's)

Leicester Tigers are your local Peremiership team, but Nottingham are an ambitious team and in the Championship and closer to Derby. Unfortunately, Derby RFC is not up to much above Colts level.

In that case nottingham sound like my cup of tea. I know they're playing cov at ML soon so i may watch that one

Bath Rugby

The problem is the land the ground is on, the Rec. The team was granted a lease to play on the ground decades ago, but this now has charitable status and is administered by the Charities Commission, one of the most indecisive bodies in the world. Basically, to expand the ground and thus compete in a growingly expensive sport, the club need to expand its footprint on the Rec. But, the wording of the lease, basically says it can't, as no one sport is allowed to dominate the area. Despite an overwhelming support for the club to expand on the Rec by Bath residents in a recent poll, and backing by the council (including him who shall not be named....), the proposal is dying in red tape and through opposition by a select few, very vocal old codgers who I'm sure could teach the Falmer stadium opposers a thing or two about spouting vitriol and general Nimby'ism.
!

I'll be there today for the Worcester game.

But don't let anyone on here be fooled by talk of parallels by Goldtsone Ground and Bath Rec. The Rec is not "owned" by Bath Rugby although they would like to think they own it. A better parallel is between Pompey and Bath Rugby. A commercial organisation providing professional sport as part of the entertainment industry that is overspending by paying its players more than it can afford.

As for the Bath planners, they are a shambles and have been for years. We are part of a world economy, Bath needs to preserve the one advantage that it has got that brings the tourist in which is its location. The site is very central, very sensitive and needs to be kept open. Build a monster stadium on the site for people to watch a minority sport will be a disaster. No-one wants to see Bath Rugby leave The City, the old guys who used to play for the tems when it was an extension of/pinnacle of the local club structure would not get their zimmers out and travel to Chippenham. There's another city centre site where a conference centre stadium needs to be built and in Nickl Blofeld, the new chief exec, I think Bath Rugby have now got a Martin Perry equivalent to talke the thing forward. He can see that Bath needs new conference facilities as well as a new stadium. He can see that Rugby won't be self funding and that its daft to build a new facility which is only usewd for 60 - 70 hours a year.

Saying all that I can't see the Bath City faithful wanting to travel all the way from Twerton to the Western Riverside to b part of a crowd of 500 in a 20,000 all seater stadium. Doesn't grab me ! I worry about turning up at a 22,000 seater Falmer and being in a "crowd"! of 10,000.

Followed Leicester Tigers when I was at univ there in the 70's but used to go to the Rec regularly when I first met Mrs AD as she was doing a PhD at Bath Univ.
John Hall holding "Court" in the Poultney Arms after a game; marvellous memories - great location and I love going back for a game, should do it more.

Bath sign England flanker Lewis Moody from Leicester

Moody has won six Premiership titles and three European Cups at Leicester
Bath have signed England flanker and World Cup winner Lewis Moody from Leicester on a three-year deal.

The 31-year-old will arrive at the Recreation Ground in the summer having made his professional debut with the Tigers while a schoolboy in 1996.

Moody made his England debut against Canada in 2001 and has won 59 caps.

He said: "I have always known that if I was ever going to leave Leicester, the only club I would consider in the UK would be Bath."

He continued: "They play an exciting brand of rugby and having spent time with both [coach] Steve Meehan and [chief executive] Nick Blofeld, I am sure that there are exciting years ahead.

Bath's values perfectly suit my own - it is a great city and club, with a real family feel and a close knit and impressive squad

Lewis Moody
"I am really looking forward to an exciting new challenge at this stage of my career.

"Bath's values perfectly suit my own - it is a great city and club, with a real family feel and a close knit and impressive squad."

Moody was a key part of England's 2003 World Cup winning squad, coming off the bench in the final.

Two years later he went on to become a British and Irish Lion, winning three caps on the tour of New Zealand.

He made his senior debut for Leicester while still at school in August 1996 and became the youngest Tiger to figure in a league match.

Since then Moody has gone on play more than 200 times for the Welford Road club, scoring 34 tries.

He has picked up six Premiership titles and three European Cups in his time with Leicester.

Moody becomes Bath's third signing for next season, following the capture of Newcastle winger Tom Biggs and Glasgow scrum-half Mark McMillan.

Great player, but I've never been a fan due to his Leicester connections.
Will have to change my opinion now!
