So the Braves beat the Phillies 4-1 in the season opener, but, like the cricket season, its obviously bloody cold out there because Chicago White Sox game today has already been postponed because of the weather.

They are worried about the blustery weather and even snow in St Louis today.

"The Cardinals certainly hope that the game will not be postponed. If a postponement is required, the club has been informed that the most likely course of action would be a split doubleheader on Tuesday. That would present a significant complication, since St. Louis does not have a day off in the season's first three weeks. Someone would need to be called up to start Saturday's game against Houston, because the Cardinals would be loath to use either [pitcher] Adam Wainwright or Kyle Lohse on three days' rest."

So compare this with our pampered pooches, who were complaining at being tired becaue they were having to play twice a week for four whole weeks. If the Hereford game gets postponed, lets just play a double header next time we play them, once in the morning and once in the evening.
The Cardinals are playing every day (ex April 19th) from today until 10th May - 4 games home to Pittsburgh, 3 at home to Houston, 3 in Phoenix, 3 in Chicago, 3 home to Mets, 3 at home to the Cubs, 3 in Atlanta, 3 in Washington...)

Don't get me wrong I love the Albion more than anything, but I am looking forward to crossing off a new ground in August. No, not Morecambe or Accrington - but I'll be going to see the Redbirds at Citi Field and I can't bloody wait :yahoo:

Not being funny Baz but Baseball players don't actually do a lot in a game do they?

Point taken, but simply turning up at the ground day after day, all across the country, never mind batting practice and actual game time is pretty impressive in my book.

Who works harder? a bench player for the Mets or 99% of the current Albion squad?

The Yankees are the Man U / Chelsea of MLB - the team everyone loves to hate. Most savvy New Yorkers support the Mets. Love 'em or hate 'em what you cannot deny is the fantastic fan experience that their new stadium provides - not as good as Withers though !!

Fenway Park is better :clap2:

It has more character and history, a real old school stadium.

Although you can’t watch baseball on terrestrial TV in the UK this year,

Really? What has happened to Five's coverage? I always thought they seems quite keen on US sports on there.

Personally, I have NASN anyway, but I did prefer the coverage on Five.

Your point taken also. I couldn't imagine footballers (or Kevin Pietersen) going through 162 games. 81 obviously away.

Spot on Lyndy which is why I swing towards the Mets. First went to Shea in 1970 and chatted to Willie Mays outside. He was leaning on his Cadillac looking every bit like Huggy Bear. What a memory.

Blimey! There'd be a few natives out there who would envy you that!
I met Hank Aaron in London in the 80s and he was a complete gent. I also met and chatted with Peter Gammons at the Giants in 2003, before his illness.

(p.s. good start for your Mets)

The season is almost 2 weeks old and things are very interesting.

The Florida Marlins look strong and cohesive, and are scoring runs for fun. I predict they will not only win the NL East but make the World Series.

As for the AL, Boston look off-colour and the AL East is so competitive. I still think the Yankees will come through because of their strength in depth.

So, for me, a repeat of the 2003 World Series - Yankees vs Marlins.

Far too hard to call at this early stage. I liked what I saw of the Padres against the Mets the other day and I reckon they'll have another strong season.
