Just heard that the New York Yankees have offered Alex Rodriguez a $200 million dollar ten year contract. He was voted MVP (player of the year) in baseball last year, but the Yanks have won F*** all since he came to the east coast.

He had opted out of his contract, which was already one of the highest in the game, to see if he could get more, but sure enough the NYY could face seeing someone else spend more money than them.

Of course he'll play 150+ games per seaon for his $20m, so rather more effort than John Terry ? Fat Lampard

At the same time the alleged tosser that is Barry Bonds and is allegedly drugged up to the eyeballs has been charged with allegedly being a wanker, oh and perjury.

Most reports have the new deal worth at least $275million. Still, what's $75million between friends?

Oh leave Barry alone. He may or may not have taken steroids, it's never been proved, and even if he has, he's hardly unique in baseball. When Sosa and Mark McSteroid were chasing the single season HR record a few years back, Mark wasn't getting anythink like the sort of abuse that Bonds has had to endure.

It just seems a strange thing about baseball, that a lot of people revel in the old records particularly if they involve Babe Ruth. the media couldn't leave "the curse of the bambino" along until the Sox finally broke it, and Hank Aaron got plenty of stick about not being worthy of breaking the record that Bonds has now broken.

For every pitch that a batter has hit harder because of steroids, I bet there is a pitcher who has thrown the ball faster thanks to steroids, or recovered from injury that would have put them out of the game back in Ruth's day.

I hope it includes a clause that states he has to travel on the 4 train to every home game - then it'd be worth it!

A-Rod has not been hitting in the off-season for a while and that story puts pressure on the team.

The problem for him is that there aren't many teams who could afford him, who need him and who will contend. You'd normally expect him to head west, but if Joe Torre couldn't help him at NY he won't be able to at LA Dodgers.

For the good of baseball it would be great if he could overtake Bonds in the Home Run stakes. Colorado would be the place to go, I like that idea.
