I think it was George Barry. This verdict does give further proof that the death penalty is totally unjustifiable.

This case is a very bad case for British justice. George should never have been convicted in the first place. To convict a jury need to find "beyond all reasonable doubt" that the accused comitted the murder. How the jury did this in the first place is beyond me. They convicted on the basis of a miniscule (probably smaller than the eye could see) speck of residue found in one of George's numerous jackets. There was nothing else to go on.

This should have gone to appeal much earlier.

There was a good thread on this a while back, and a fair few of us couldn't believe he had got convicted on basically no evidence. It was only circumstantial (ie he was a bit strange). The police were desperate, and the jury seem to have agreed that him being odd doesn't make him a murderer.

Loads of things about it were odd, not least that she was forced to kneel down outside her house and shot once in the head with a specially treated bullet. That is a professional hit, not the work of the local nutter.

Alice Beer.

(there is no evidence for this allegation whatsoever, it isn't true, and it is, in fact, a joke on this poster's part. Alice Beer didn't do it.)

Bloody hell, I didn't know about that:ohmy:

*jumpstoconclusion*

Sounds like she pissed off one too many people on crime watch then.

I feel sorry for her fiance in all this. Alan Farthing was a good friend of mine when I was a teenager in Crowborough. Super guy but now he's left wondering what happened all over again. I never thought he'd grow up to be a gynaecologist though.

Totally agree. I can't really believe the original jury convicted. There is no doubt George is odd, but then again so are a lot of people and that doesn't make them murderers. Some of the eye witness reports of the incident actually contradict the way George looks.

The prosecution's orginal ace card in the first trial was this minscule residue of powder, that was ruled inadmissable in this trial. In this trial the prosecution had nothing to go on. No ballistic evidence, no eye witness evidence, no DNA evidence or motive for George. The only thing they could offer is the fact he was odd. That is not enough to convict beyond all reasonable doubt.

Thank god, he can get back to his darts career again.

This is the English legal systems cogs turning in a way which intrigues me.

He has been let off, but almost certainly did it - but has the right to be defended and let off if the evidence is not there to convict- the law enforcement agencies have to evolve with this news.

10 guilty walking the streets or one innocent banged up for life......i know which i would prefer....

Just interested but how does anyone actually know that?

Interesting concept. Presume you would be happy to be that one innocent?

The fact that someone manages to shoot her in broad daylight with no witnesses or evidence whatsoever being found would support the professional hit theory.

Barry George, although admittedly diddlo, is not a top assassin

Speaking of funny TV personality Killers...how's about barrymore? where was he when Lady Di and her double Jill Dando bought the farm? or maybe it was Prince Phillip or the Masons...

Wasn't part of the circumstantial evidence from some biddy who saw someone looking like him cruising past or three point turning a car earlier in the day, just outside Dando's house?

Turns put the guy can't even drive. Pretty certain I saw/read that somewhere.

Does look like he was tucked up like a kipper because he was a bit strange. Didn't used to post on here did he?
