5, if you count the 2 that took a slight deflection off CMS.
Not bad for a midfielder.

He's not scored 5 goals, he's scored 3.

And it's an absolute MYTH that he plays in midfield. It's an unfortunate comparison with the best player in the country, but Wayne Rooney frequently does the same job, I don't believe he's ever been described as a midfielder?

3 goals all season.

2 vs Barnsley (+2 shots that hit Mackail-Smith and went in)
1 vs Millwall
1 vs Blackpool

Several assists, good hold-up play and a bonus defensively.

Bore off.

Well said Wizard. The midfield gap is huge without Barnes and his header to CMS to score was pace and position perfect. He just joins everything up and can't wait to see if Vicente gets back because they link up best.

Him and Vicente do indeed link up very well. Can't imagine Vicente ever envisaged linking up with Ashley Barnes though when he was feeding David Villa and Joaquin :lolol:

Gus said "If you cant see what Barnes does you dont know anything about football" I rest my case

This is the same Gus who assured the press in September when we were top of the league that we definitely wouldn't fall away again like we did last year.

oh.

SHIT, apologies, you're right, I forgot the 1 he scored (from a yard out) at Blackpool.

4 it is then, plus 3 assists.

What a BONUS he is.

Some people, not singling WW out because its not only him, but some people must not watch the game, how many times was he back today covering and helping out in defence? Quite frankly, he's being played in a position that isn't naturally his and he is working his balls off for the team unlike certain players who have played instead of him, dobbie being the main one who he was dropped for initially. I am a fan of the lad however I am not blind and I admit he had been relatively poor before he was dropped for a few games, but when he comes back and you really watch him you realise how involved he is, espeically defensively, where I think he is actually very strong.

The constant crusade against him is boring, and some people prove that he is a scapegoat considering he plays as well as he did today and they STILL don't see it!

I'm sure barnes would be delighted that he is mentioned in the same context as Rooney

Probably.

But it's ridiculous. He does a bit of tracking back, which is rarely effective (today's clearly an exception). Some people make it out to be a gift from God.

We're a Championship team with Premiership aspirations. Just because Barnes does a bit of defensive work it does not make him up to this level of football.

personally i have been a strong critic of barnes in the past, however today i feel he has proved me and many others wrong by being part of a 3-0 win away. when i first saw the team sheet i admit that is was aprehensive in having barnes upfront however when we got going, you could really tell why we have been conceding recently and getting so many draws. not saying that today has made me love the guy however if he puts in a few more performances like today then i feel a slight change in fortune for the rest of our results.

LuaLua has been better since he was dropped and had to work hard to come back, sounds like same can be said of Barnes then. Maybe a rest and a bit of extra motivation does make a difference. Vicente better be bloody magic given how long his has been!

Can you please, for once in your sad life, be positive about the Albion players and staff?
Maybe Barnes doesn't deserve all the credit for today's result, but do you really have to be so mean-spirited ?
Do you have such low self-esteem that you must constantly belittle the team to make yourself feel better?
Rejoice in the fact that the Albion had a good win and save your vitriol for someone or something that really deserves it.

Don't waste your breath. WW is surely a Palace fan because in my opinion, even WW has said we are allowed our own opinions, some one who generates that much negative energy cannot be described as a fan. :D

On the face of it, the only change in the team from Sat was Barnes in for Bruno, and we went from a totally awful performance to a 3-0 away win.

Was it all because of Barnes? I doubt it, but even the most blinkered of people must be able to appreciate that he made a difference today.

I agree with you but must point out that Hammond was in for Crofts also....

Mmm my sentiments entirely, these people who are so vitriolic against the players in their 'own' team, are either attention seeking or not Albion fans. Doesn't matter which, but it's a very sad existence nonetheless !!

Sorry yes, absolutely correct and Hammond did make a positive contribution that everyone could see, rather than a positive contribution that only people who understand the players role in the team, and its importance to how we play, can see.
