Barnes or Vicente as penalty taker

I gather Vicente was champing at the bit to take the penalty against Reading. Pressure seemed to get to Barnes, and he missed.

So if Vicente takes penalties, do we need Barnes in the team?

Give set pieces to Kuszczak. Goalkeepers taking freekicks and penalties is FLAIR

1) The pressure didnt get to Barnes, he scored one at Selhurst Park - that would have been pressure
2) Barnes does a LOT more than just take penalties, its just the blinkered minority on NSC don't see it... he's actually the player MOST on Vicente's wavelength as regards runs and interplay (I am not saying he is on a par technically, but he made the runs which Vicente picked out whereas CMS and others didnt - his footballing brain is probably higher than most in the squad and he does exactly what Gus asks him to do)
3) Surely the Barnes debate has been done to death now?

Why isn't it possible that Federici made a GOOD SAVE on the Reading penalty? The pen wasn't perfect but the save was very good.

I agree with the above.

Barnes missed one against easily the best keeper we faced all season.

I used to be a Barnes critic, but I see his value in the team now and his penalty taking is usually spot on.

Vicente is obviously a far better striker of the ball

Penalty taking is a very specific skill though. It's not as simple as that.

Also, looking at last season, Barne's finishing was as good as Vicente's. Vicente hit the bar vs Reading when it would've been easier to score - if it had been Barnes people would've been absolutely furious with rage, hurling obscenities at him. Most half chances Barnes had he slotted away nicely.

Would we have noticed because that seems to happen every minute of every game anyway?
