another blinder by #9 Ashley Barnes - waste of space - him and Dicker are our weakest links in that 11.

I am sure I will get slated for starting another thread about this, but I don't care. Time and time again it is proven that they are not up to this level.

You wont hear any argument from me. The sooner these two are dropped, the sooner we may start scoring goals and winning games.

Why didn't you start this thread, Mr Burns? Or were you sat at home, wanting somebody else to, so you could contribute? One miss. CMS missed a chance. Lua Lua spanked chances wide, so did Crofts and Greer.

But that wouldn't suit your anti-Barnes agenda, would it?

Second worst goals scored last season, three games in to this season, no goals scored. We need better strikers. Simple.

IMHO Barnes is a useful striker, but he wont score enough to take us up. Add another top quality striker, added to Barnes 20 odd, and we'll be in a different boat

I'd rather he's taken off penalty duty an given to CMS or vicente...then we will see how many he bags. Dislike his attitude at times an how CMS gets criticised for not scoring when Barnes is very similar but doesn't work half as hard. Barnes doesn't suit our system, why can no1 see tht.

I would argue the fact that he failed in a one on one opportunity, as well as missing the target with a free header and constantly moping around asking for free kicks which even Sureyya from the phone in (back in the day) wouldn't have given him, would suit the "anti-Barnes agenda" as you call it.

CMS doesn't take penalties. He didn't take them for Posh either.
Poyet has been here for 2.5 years in which time we've won League 1 at a gallop with Barnes scoring 20 goals and he was our top scorer last season, so of course he suits our system.

League 1 is a much slower game, despite no positional changes, the system changes as the tempo is higher. Don't get me wrong, Barnes is good enough for our club yes, but should not be in that starting 11. He started out wide of the front 3 tonight, what does he offer us there?

Yes, you silly cow. I've been sitting here all night just waiting for the thread to appear. One miss. Sums it up, because when he went clean through, as per he didn't even get a shot away but managed his trademark sit on arse with arms in the air, so I suppose it was one miss, as you can hardly call it a miss if he takes to long to shoot.

Yes. CMS missed a chance as well. Not the easiest due to the angle it arrived at, but I agree a £3m striker should be burying them. But please don't compare CMS to Barnes tonight. Please please don't.

And for the last time, I don't have an anti-Barnes agenda. But you know that. Time and time again I've said I wish Barnes proves me wrong, and I have nothing personally against him. But you know that.

I think Barnes is poor, and tonight proved no different tonight. It's an opinion. Shared by many I might add.

If you know any ex-pros well enough, ask their honest opinion of Barnes. Not that you can name and post comments on here, but I'm sure you'll see a pattern.

Would love to know if anyone thought Barnes had a good game tonight, and if so why

Barnes is always going to divide opinion. I'm on the fence still. Dicker is simply not good enough. Painfully slow and his passing has gone downhill. Gus does make me question some of his choices. To get rid of the versatile Vincelot and a decent midfielder in Sparrow, only to keep Dicker and Harley is very odd. I can understand why TB wouldn't want Gus near his cheque book

Many many people see that. But the problem is some on here would defend a player no matter what, just because he wears the strips.

Ednas post sort of sums it up. Doesn't add anything to back it up, just doesn't like to hear a player critized.

I think the interesting thing with Barnes, is if Poyet left, what a different manager would do with him.

I like Barnes as a player although he can be frustrating however the missed header tonight was a shocker. I was in the South stand and he had a clear run at it unmarked inside the six yard box and somehow mistimed his jump and instead of powering it in in he just let it hit his head and cushioned it over the bar. However, Mr Burns, putting a positive spin on it -he did get in the right position to score.

But he does that a lot. He goes through and doesn't even manage a shot. The day we lose Dicker and Barnes from this team, the day things will improve.

Everyone around me thought Dicker played well tonight. As for Barnes, he missed one chance. Cardiff missed better ones.

It's sad to think because you don't rate someone, that you have an agenda against them. I dont rate Dicker, but I don't have an agenda against him. As I've said time and time over the summer and last season, I'd love Barnes to prove me wrong and be our top scorer for the next ten years, and beat Peter Wards record every season. That's hardly having an agenda against the bloke. I just think he's shit, and given my reasons why I think that. Most on the opposite side of the fence, I think deep down know he is, but will defend him because he's a Brighton player, and thats fair play. But most of the other views are he's great because he's our top scorer, fine. If you want to rate a player because he's top scorer with 12 goals including a number of pens, then fine. I'll reserve my right to rate him based on a bit more than that.
