Barking Dogs

I have neighbours who are renting the place opposite.

They have a big dog that seems to live in the garden and barks at anything that moves. Often the barking is till well after midnight and this morning (Sunday) the barking woke me at 4.45am.

I am now well pissed off and would like advice from NSC on how to proceed.

council on noise grounds they will come round and listen possibly set up a meter also see how much his barking and take action if they seem fit

They don't use a meter for this sort of thing. They will come round and will asses the noise nuisance on it's volume in the "living areas" (ie lounge/bedrooms).

Complain to the local council and the tenants landlord...If you get no joy then shoot the bugger and sell it to the local Mongolian Takeaway!

I aim to please, you aim to kill!

It is very hard to stop a dog barking bar beating it or having it debarked both of which are shit options. You may just have to live with it..I spend quite a bit of time in a house in the middle of nowhere and my dog drives me nuts barking at anything it hears, from tractors to other dogs to cars in the distance. There really is no way to stop it that I know of.

we have dogs either side of us and one of mine ignores it when they bark while the other one goes ballistic - seems to be a temperement thing more than anything and me and the missus shouting at it just makes my headache worse. What you (and I) need is karma............................

Chicken Karma?

I had an `imaginary` friend who had the same problem. So twice he put an` Imaginary `sleeping tablet wrapped in ham, over the garden fence about an hour before his `imaginary` neighbours came home from work. The shock of their lifeless `imaginary`dog was enough for them to keep him in in future.Of course this should never be done in reality, but maybe you could use your imagination like I did,i mean like my `imaginary`friend did.

Shame it's not this fella.
He's 6 years old and has probably only barked 5 times.
When he does, he scares himself and looks around to see who did it.

Isn't barking what dogs do? What would everyone's reaction be to someone who dumped their dog at the RSPCA because it barks?

I appreciate it's annoying especially at stupid o'clock in the morning, but think your best bet, unfortunately is ear-plugs. Alternatively you may get used to it, like people who live near railway lines never hear the trains.
