Big Corporate companies. Utterly disgusting as usual. It pisses me off that any government that ever gets elected has no balls to put them in their place TBH. I work for a rather hated industry and i am almost morally obliged to quit, it is so bloody wrong how the man in the street always gets stitched up.

A few yrs ago, i got my nephew a gift voucher from Zavvi, worth £25. A few weeks later they went bust, why did they take my cash then? 2 yrs or so later, (last week) i get a check from the administrators,.......for £3.75. What a bloody joke.

banks and insurance companies are kants......FACT. I was persued by an insurance company to re-pay money that was paid to me for being unable to work due to a near death experience , they took it all the way to court , where the judge tore them a new arsehole and awarded me costs , it was only that i paid a barrister to look at the case and he told me they had no claim that i didn't pay them....... just what you need after 3 moths in hospital and over a year off work.

no organisation is perfect and people do actually make genuine mistakes.
However, this does not excuse the flagrant attitude and blatant profiteering at the customers misery by some of these banks. They've got 'Tescos' syndrome ( way too big for their boots and think they can steam roller anyone/everyone ) . Having said that, they're in the business of making money and they'll do it any way legally possible, even if morally it stinks

We are with LloydsTSB and I have been very impressed with the service so far. My wife’s debit card was cloned and they spent a large sum on it we notified them they blocked the card and supplied a new one in 72 hours. The money was reimbursed within 48 hours so in this case the service was good.

Guy I work with lost his wallet last week which contained his cashpoint card (Santander). He reported it lost, and they told him a new card will be sent to him, he should receive it "within 7-10 days".

WTF ? He's a bit of a drongo ot be fair. I said I'd be going nuts, I'd expect a new card and pin within 2-3 days tops. He just shrugged and went to the microwave to get his porridge, after we heard it go 'ping'.

That's why I left Santander (previously A&L). They cocked up my on-line banking a few days before I was moving house and every time I rang them, it was always "it'll be 7-10 days" for us to send a new password!!! Took them almost 3 months to sort out and god knows how many phone calls, by which time I'd transferred to the Halifax, who were excellent.
Eventually got £80 out of Santander but oh! the hassle.
Stay a mile away from them!

Gotta say hsbc have been really good to me. I'm with their premier account. I had my card stolen in Thailand and they got me a replacement within 24 hours. Good travel insurance. Free withdrawals from abroad. Good discounts on golf. Own account manager, no queues at branch.

Bloody excellent !!

...and no I'm not on commission !

but they are , i've had no problems in 20 years with them :wrong:

I opened my first account with Westminster Bank in 1967, beore the merger. Family loyalty, my bro worked for them.

Have occasionally regretted it, but it's a bit like a football club, you tend to stay loyal. Or people DID until about 10 years ago when the internet revolution encouraged online banking.

Halifax did the exact same thing with me. I think it's just an extra security check to egt you to represent your ID at a branch. Annoying, but helps with security I guess?

I think its a case of all banks are shit and all banks are good.

Its just how lucky you are. The OP sounds like a genuine cock up, but mistakes happen. Its how they are dealt with is the key.

From my experience Barclays are quite good. HSBC for business are a f***ing joke. Took them nearly 2 months to open one style of account for me, after THEY made a spelling error on the application form. WHen I finally went in there and "lost it" with them, I was orginally told 3 more weeks, but a few harsh word latter those 3 weeks turned into 24 hours and it was done.

It really depends who you get and what branch you deal with.
