What a terrible refereeing performance. Bale should have been booked before he was. Varane's leg was taken out by Suarez in the build up to Messi's goal. And Madrid denied a clear pen for a foul on Marcelo.

Bale's was a straight red all day long. The ball was no where in sight, but studded MMA on the defender's leg was a disgrace.

Agree about awful officials.

VAR, as long as the officials aren't biased (a danger in Spain), can't come soon enough.

Bale's foul was never a red. It was a somewhat reckless attempt to try and get the ball with the Barca player shielding it out of play, but it wasn't intentional, in which case it would have been a red. As someone else said, Messi's was more worthy of a red, because of the clear intent, although that also wouldn't have deserved a red.

VAR is coming next season in La Liga.

Now I think about it, there was also a Barca player (Alba?) who had his hand around Modric's throat in the first half - that could have been a red too.

Intention isn’t part of the law now.

No attempt to reach the ball. Just snide thuggery.
