Barber cools optimism on loan striker

A loan striker for up to three months who may not actually work out (paynter anybody?) or a hotel and student accommodation giving the club an improved finance income for years to come, helping improve our financial power in the face of FFP?

I think I know which I'd prefer.
.

Here's a novel idea...How about a loan striker that does work out...hang on, that's a bit risky getting a player in as maybe he won't work out...silly me

I'm not concerned at the lack of striker but I AM just getting tired of the club promising players, only to backtrack a few days later.

Most well run firms have a media department, where you're not allowed to communicate anything to the wider world without informing them first. Why hasn't this BASIC idea been adopted by the club. Stop drip feeding bollocks and tell us when something actually HAPPENS you useless tossers.

Though I suspect it's not an either/or situation and we will get someone, and that the funds for each are completely separate and anyone suggesting we can't afford a loan player because we're planning a hotel are just ridiculously mistaken.

Who knows if it will work out until you try it....Andrews/Ward..loan deals..seem fine...Conway...not so sure (early days yet)...loan or sign its always a gamble...perhaps this should all have been sorted 2 months ago

You keep coming out with stuff like this, and I accept there's a valid point in there somewhere but when you write things like I've highlighted it just shows that you don't understand the real world and probably think running a club is the same as playing football manager. All the infastructure costs will come out of a separate budget to the playing one. The playing budget has obviously been decided with FFP in mind and is directly related to our running costs, without seeing the numbers it's impossible to make a statement about what is right. Remember there's some top accountantants on our board and this is a multi million pound business, they didn't just write some numbers on the back of a fag packet.

Like I said, there's a valid debate to be had about the playing budget, FFP, stadium costs etc. but if I'm having that debate with you I might as well start discussing my mortgage payments and how much I spend on food with my 5 year old nephew. It would be a similar conversation.

I'm with you. Anyone who says "They're talking of investing 55 million in the Amex complex so why can't they afford a decent loan striker?" doesn't understand the situation and won't understand any explanation.

Having said that I share the frustrations. But the bottom line is we've still got to pay all the players who are injured (as I bet they're not on zero hours contracts) and that severely limits the amount we've got left to splurge on temporary replacements.

And yes, communications is definitely not the club's strong suit.

last season overall we spent 8 million more than we can spend this season so it makes, senseto assume the budget for the squad is drastically reduced this year

That's not what barber and bloom said at the fans forum on 1st August - I cant remember the quote verbatim but they said the playing budget was the same as last year.

Its a poor show if that's not the case and the club are being economical with the truth. I don't believe we should poor money into a black hole - but the club should be honest with the supporter and say - sorry no cash left.

This is rapidly becoming an absolute joke. If Barnes was to follow the rest of our forwards & do a proverbial Spinal Tap Drummer on the training pitch, we'll be thoroughly stuffed.

Sort. It. Out. Albion. :annoyed:
Why would losing Barnes make a difference to our results, if anything we would be better off without him , his replacement might actualy score a goal or 2.Time to start using the devlopment squad me thinks

Our budget is being spent on wages, signing on fees, agents fees etc rather than transfer fees as seems the way these days. Given our squad strength I cannot see our wages bill is anything less than what it was last year and is probably more so I am sure money is tight.

It could just be that by his comments TB (the financier and a true fan) is expecting those at the club to do their jobs and bring in a striker or two which he can see the club desperately needs at this moment.

point well made, sir !

Thats wrong and isn't how financial fair play works. 8 million was our reported losses last year does not mean we have to break even this year. What this uear does mean investment from owners/shareholders will be reduced year on year till 2015/2016 season. In that year owners or shareholders will be able to invest a maximum figure. The bottom line is we can not rely on Tony Blooms money.
Those winging about budget being spent on hotels and other things will realise this will help us in the years to come greatly. Likewise the academy set up again has nothing to do with FFP budget.
The club is doing it right and we will see the benefits.
Some clubs in my opinion are making one final attempt to bankroll a premier league place. In a year or 2 as the investment money dwindles those that don't make it will see some dark times again. Forest, QPR and a few others maybe in a lot of trouble if they don t make it

Obika was all set to join and he then got injured.

We had a decent striker lined up for last week but Oscar decided he wasn't the right sort of player (not fast enough, I understand) so the deal wasn't pushed through.

Oscar has to be allowed to do his job, which includes only bringing in players he feels will add real benefit.

If we haven't got anyone this time next week then I'll be pushing that big button marked "PANIC!", but I don't expect it to come to that.

So glad to hear that Oscar has input into who is hired by the club. There are some that believe he has to work with whomever is presented to him on the training ground....

Basically agree, though when nothing happens - or when something is ongoing - and there's nothing to announce, people whine about that too.

I was wondering where all the negativity on NSC went......and now its back again

I assume everyone who is moaning knows what it is like to find players for a football club. It isnt just "Hes a striker, lets get him on loan to us" its a hell of a lot more work than that. You need to thoroughly scout them so we dont end up with another Billy Paynter, see if they will fit into our system, ask the parent club if we can loan them, agree terms and only then can it be pushed through, before a medical of course. We went through most of those stages with Obika and nearly all of them with this other striker before Oscar said no.

We have another week to get one in chill until about Friday night, then panic. Besides, has anyone actually thought that our target may actually be involved in International action this weekend (U21 or Senior) ?

Basically agree, though when nothing happens - or when something is ongoing - and there's nothing to announce, people whine about that too.

This is NSC and Brighton and Hove Albion - people moan about EVERYTHING.

What we're left with up front now simply does not work, worth the risk, surely?

If we don't get a decent loan striker in then we can kiss goodbye to any chance of a play-off challenge this season.

I doubt many have still got any hope of a p/o place. Last week it seemed like most were happy with having a consolidation season in this division.

And poeple moaned at Gus when he quite rightly highlighted that we would have a budget problem this season.

We can't even afford to sign a decent striker on loan for a couple of months.

Very interesting to see Bloom virtually promising AT LEAST ONE before Yeovil, and then Barber a few days later saying this may not happen. Interesting.

'“Those of us who work in suits don’t like to guarantee minutes on the pitch when the coach has got to make those decisions" This is something I can we can applaud Barber for, false promises are the worst thing in football.

Don't worry, G. It's still full steam ahead for the Premiershit!
