I'm just in the process of re-claiming my owed bank charges, followed the first step of what money saving expert tells you to do.

Send a letter asking for statements of charges over the last 6 years.

All they did was send me charges for the year 2002-2003....nothing else..

What would you do next??? has anyone else incurred this problem???

Ring them or another letter....whats the plan?

Best to keep a written record of everything in case of dispute

Would it help If I try and ring the bloke who I originally sent the letter too?

Does anyone at all remember where the bank contact listings were?

I need the natwest one?

Persevere and do whatever it takes. The chap I give a lift to work to got paid out just shy of £6000 yesterday from Nat West. Their letter started out with the usual gubbins and then in a winning last paragraph they explained that after reviewing his case and under no obligation they were crediting his account with £5985.

His six years worth of statements came in instalments if that helps.

Abbey are currently reviewing my claim. £2380 pounds. Got my list of charges in installments. The best thing you can do is contact the Financial Ombudsman. They give you a ref number. then let your bank know they are monitoring the request. They soon respond.

I have given Abbey four weeks to pay up or I'm taking them to court. Abbey are notorious for hanging on to last minute but f*** 'em, they cannot win. I am looking forward to my holiday even more now knowing I will have two grand + spends!

word of warning , filing MCOL can add up to 16 weeks to the claim.
Most banks seem to be working within an 8 week deadline (from money request) and in most cases an offer will come out .

Be patient

that forum has all the info you need though

Soz, meant eight weeks. I am expecting an offer but wont accept a trifling amount.

Een if they do turn up (tey have a max of 40 days to get these to you, irrelevant of any internal procedures they have, that is the Law) if they exceed the time limit write again telling them they have exceeded the 40 day period and you need a response in 7 days (not working days). You must not let them dictate the pace of the complaint they must stick to the law. When they exceeded the 40 days I wrote to them and they turned up 4 days later.

Being patient and trading carefuly does not work with them, they only think you are not being serious. I chased them every step of the way. You will only succeed if you do this

So send a letter to the same guy..saying i want them now...sort of thing..in the style of richard E Grant....."We want the finest wines known to humanity, we want them hear and we want them now"

Aside from that..thanks for the advice its very much appreciated.
