In 1989 'When Will I be famous' was voted the best single of all time by listeners to 'Fab' Radio 1:eek:

There are some of the World's drossiest bands on this thread. Maybe there should be a disco at the next NSC meet and every band mentioned should be played

Of course I won't be able to attend:D

I'd agree with The Shamen. Every track on their greatest hits album is a winner (though almost all of them were re-mixed by someone else). They're UV album from 98 is good too.

How about Queen? They're unfashionable (and always were), and they were often great.

I am of an age to remember the arrival of Punk, a time when many of us tried to bury our prog-rock past and pretend that we had been listening to the New York Dolls in the early 70s and not Greenslade. I was the same and got well into the energy of the Pistols, Clash etc.

However part of me still hankered for a gatefold sleeve covered in mystical images and some good old meaningless gibberish about pixies and I still secretly, and in the dead of night, unearthed my Gong, Caravan, Hatfield and The North albums. This was the ultimate in uncool in 1977 and it is the same today.

All About Eve.

They succeeded in destroying their careers by famously cocking up the miming of 'Martha's Harbour' on TOTP, but Julianne Regan's voice was pretty amazing in its time.

I saw them 4 times in 6 days back in 1989 - Brighton Dome (Tues), Portsmouth Guildhall (Weds), Hammersmith Odeon (Fri) and London Astoria (Sun), and also managed to get a kiss off Ms Regan after the Hammersmith show.

Good shout, shirty. I remember that TOTP effort with All about Eve - just standing there like mongs as the music kicked off when they weren't, erm, ready. :lolol: :lolol: :lolol:

I saw them at The Royal Albert Hall, backed up by an at-the-time, unheard of band called The La's.

Absolute, 100% snap!!! Whatever happened to great acts like Incredible String Band, Third Ear band, Edgar Broughton, Uriah Heep, Humble Pie, King Crimson, Van der graaf Generator and the like? Bring back prog rock, cheesecloth shirts and afghan coats!

I can out sad the lot of you!

The Drifters (Quality!)
Hot Chocolate
Neil Diamond
The London Boys! :shootself (Their first album was very catchy in a euro pop type way)
Pet Shop Boys (Being a naive youngster, I liked their music long before I knew about their sexuality and the gay meanings to songs like rent - still think It's a Sin is one of my favourite songs. Don't like their stuff from the last 10 years though )

Acts I have seen live :-

Barry Manilow (Taken by my mum on the day we beat Newcastle away in the cup - 1984 I believe)
Jason Donovan (Took my sister - was one of only about 5 males in the Brighton Centre)
Spice Girls (Took my girlfriends nieces just before Geri left)
Alvin Stardust 3 times (My girlfriends favourite! :lolol: )

Meopham, Kent.
The band (?) that I always liked, and could never quite explain why was "5ive".

Shocking, awful, manufactured pop, can't begin to explain it, but somehow I always quite liked their stuff. Not that I would admit it to anyone.
