On this day in 1910, Albion beat Villa 1-0 to win the Charity Shield.

So come on then, where were you when we were good?

I shall be looking out for the Charlie Webb bus tomorrow.

Yeah, it was a blinding day, too. Think I was on the 0700 train out of Brighton that morning, tinned up big time. Was planning on meeting a few mates in Kingsbury but it fell through, so we ended up in some litter boozer up by Ryslip. Wasn't to bad in there, was a bit 1880's for my liking, but it done the trick. Quite dear, but didn't mind paying it as this was it, this was cup final day. Think it was about 4d a Pint and 1 schilling for a Shot. It started to get messy by about 12 o' clock, so I left. Had my picture taken up Wembley Way, was wearing my 1903 Albion shirt, wonder kit - probably the best in our history to date. Anyway, there was a bit of a problem getting in the ground and few Villa were waiting for us on Horses, it wasn't nice. Me only being 14 at the time, I walked away and headed up to the ground. Found a nice place on the terracing and bought a PUKKA PIE - CHICKEN BALTI for 1 and a half schillings. It was probably the best pie I had..until I had one at Scarborough Away 7 years later. Anyway, the rest, as they say, is History. Last thing I remember that day was singing "E I - Edio - We won the CUP!" on Brighton Station, with a mob of about 900 Brighton.

Would post more, but I Can't remember it, it seems like so long ago now.

No. I think Celtic were, though..

I'd probably have only watched it the Celtic game on TV in that case, as I am a Brighton fan.

Anyways this could get so gay, I'm going to bed.

Your late night rants are fun, though.

Also, just out of interest. What did your TV look like in 1910? - Similar to my Camera?

Ah, 1910.

Or as I like to call it, 10 minutes past 7 in the evening.

Er. there was no c in shilling, just 12 pennies. Nobody from Brighton would have said one and a half shillings. one and sixpence or one and a tanner. Pedant alert.

I wanted to go but couldn't get a bloody ticket! i'd supported the club since God was a boy and just because I hadn't registered for the away members scheme they wouldn't give me one!

Seagulls World was OK though, thank God for Mr Marconi

I didn't go because The Daily Sketch had a two for one voucher offer for the Titanic and we were saving our pennies for the New World. I'm currently writing this from Davey Jones's Locker.

In all sincerity though, as I've been saying for years, there needs to be a replica Charity Shield in the Flamer trophy cabinet to celebrate our finest achievement.
