Good point, well made.

Its getting on my TITS all this shite about Manure having the chance of being "the first team to retain the Chumps League trophy", as if there wasn't a (far more prestigeous) competition called the European Cup, before they f***ed it all up for more TV rights. Its the same as Sky believing they invented top flight football in 1992.

Overhyped media shite.

Agreed. I've been ranting about this to anyone that would listen. Very f***ing annoying.

All they hype is a massive slight on all of those clubs listed above, especially the Real Madrid side of the late 50s who were possible the greatest club side of all time.

The Format changed in 1992 so therefore they will be the first in its current format I'm pretty sure that's what they mean.
Good luck to them I personally hope they do it they have be the best representation of England in the last few years.

You mean since it changed from a prestitgious, honourable tournament played amungst the CHAMPIONS of each national league, into a money making machine involving teams that finished 4th best in the nationa league?

Ajax have also done it 3 times in a row. Before Munich did it.

Is the Correct answer.

I Think a league of JUST champions would make it incredibly tedious.
Having the champions of each division in the champions league would be just like the premier ship you would have countries like Italy,Spain,England,France represented by the best teams in their country who are far, far superior to any champion from the likes of Denmark,Norway,Holland thus making it to predictable every year with one out of 4 teams winning, at least the way it is now you have the 4 best teams from England who are all capable of beating each other on any given day.
I Await peoples wrath.:)

The main difference, NF9, would be that the spread of money would filter into the other countries, not just the big boys. Currently the big clubs from the big leagues are snaffling the lions' share of the cash because they pick up most points in the league stage, and dominate the knock out stages. One team (ie the champions) from each league, knockout format, meant that you had to be good in every game or you were out, and every country got a slice of the pie.

Far from tedious, it was actually a lot less predictable, and didn't simply build 12 or 14 clubs up into an invincible closed shop of money-hoovering leviathans.

But Surely if one of the main complaint's from you is that
' build 12 or 14 clubs up into an invincible closed shop of money-hoovering leviathans.'
Wouldn't a league of just champions create the same affect, I like the Knock-out idea though I have always believed that is the best format.
Shall we agree to disagree.

Champions League should be a league made up of all the champions.

Europa League - maybe the teams that finished 2nd/3rd in the national leagues and cup winners

At the moment, you can finish seventh best in the fair play award for your country and accidentally qualify for Europe, and then field a weakend team because you dont want to be there
