Ok, so we got beaten, who on here really thought going away to the JJB would yeild us any points.
On the whole not a really bad performance. First half we should have gone in 0-0 but for what I could see, two reasons. The ref booking Virgo for a stupid incident, it was not a bad tackle, but probably a foul. Secondly, not awarding a free kick to us when their player handled the ball on the floor, meaning he got up, hoofef up field to Ellington, who made a good run, Virgo feeling unable to challenge on the edge of the box, or in the box , for fear of a second card (which this ref would have given , possibly if he had made a good tackle). Ellington finished well 1-0.
2nd half we were nervous, and much as I know refs have a hard job, this one was appaulling (not quite Prosser, but in the same division), and it was obvious players were worried about his bad decisions. Not making tackles etc (I know they don't always, but this was more out of fear of red cards. Wigan had no such fear as the ref didn't seem to notice what they did. Kuipers seemed to be partially at fault for the second although telly might change my mind on that. The third was just poor defending all round.
2 questions for MM. Why play Kerry Mayo on the left side of midfield when we have Jarrett and Jones who can both do a better job going forward. And if Reid is not injured, why Hinsh instead of him.
Robinson and Jarrett added a bit of bite going forward. Quite games for Leon and Currie. Danny not up to his usual standard. Butters was good though/
Ratings...
Kuipers 5 (some top class saves at the end, but if he was respomsible for 2 of the three goals, then this doesn't make up for it)
Virgo 5 Not up to the pace today.
Butters 7
Cullip 6
Harding 7 Did nothing wrong and looked like the England experience has given him confidence
Mayo 5 Nothing too wrong, but just no cutting edge or pace.
Currie 5 Very Quiet
Hinsh 6 , closed down well in the first half, tired towards the end.
Nicolas 5 , jumped out of too many tackles, very defensive minded
Molongo 5 Tried hard , to very little affect
Knight 5, had no service, so couldn't play off the back fours shoulders
Subs
Jarrett 6, showed some invention.
Robinson 6, showed you could worry the Wigan back 4
Ref 0 - the man was appauling, not one Albion player or staff shook the mans hand at the end.
All in all, we will play the same and win, with a HALF decent ref.
I don't think the outcome would have been any different with a fair ref, but it would have been closer...
