Ok, so we got beaten, who on here really thought going away to the JJB would yeild us any points.

On the whole not a really bad performance. First half we should have gone in 0-0 but for what I could see, two reasons. The ref booking Virgo for a stupid incident, it was not a bad tackle, but probably a foul. Secondly, not awarding a free kick to us when their player handled the ball on the floor, meaning he got up, hoofef up field to Ellington, who made a good run, Virgo feeling unable to challenge on the edge of the box, or in the box , for fear of a second card (which this ref would have given , possibly if he had made a good tackle). Ellington finished well 1-0.

2nd half we were nervous, and much as I know refs have a hard job, this one was appaulling (not quite Prosser, but in the same division), and it was obvious players were worried about his bad decisions. Not making tackles etc (I know they don't always, but this was more out of fear of red cards. Wigan had no such fear as the ref didn't seem to notice what they did. Kuipers seemed to be partially at fault for the second although telly might change my mind on that. The third was just poor defending all round.

2 questions for MM. Why play Kerry Mayo on the left side of midfield when we have Jarrett and Jones who can both do a better job going forward. And if Reid is not injured, why Hinsh instead of him.

Robinson and Jarrett added a bit of bite going forward. Quite games for Leon and Currie. Danny not up to his usual standard. Butters was good though/

Ratings...

Kuipers 5 (some top class saves at the end, but if he was respomsible for 2 of the three goals, then this doesn't make up for it)

Virgo 5 Not up to the pace today.

Butters 7

Cullip 6

Harding 7 Did nothing wrong and looked like the England experience has given him confidence

Mayo 5 Nothing too wrong, but just no cutting edge or pace.

Currie 5 Very Quiet

Hinsh 6 , closed down well in the first half, tired towards the end.

Nicolas 5 , jumped out of too many tackles, very defensive minded

Molongo 5 Tried hard , to very little affect

Knight 5, had no service, so couldn't play off the back fours shoulders

Subs

Jarrett 6, showed some invention.

Robinson 6, showed you could worry the Wigan back 4

Ref 0 - the man was appauling, not one Albion player or staff shook the mans hand at the end.

All in all, we will play the same and win, with a HALF decent ref.

I don't think the outcome would have been any different with a fair ref, but it would have been closer...

No, this one was pretty bad. He booked a wigan player for time wasting on a throw at 0-0 after about 30 mins. Yes, give it the other way, but a booking ?

Good read, Staffs

Kuipers 5 - could have done better with all 3 goals i think, but made up for it with 3 good saves but it was far too late.

Virgo 4 didnt put in many tackles, backed off defenders too much.

Butters 6 - good, maybe shaded cullip, but again kept backing off the wigan front too.

Cullip 6 - similar to butters, and also gave away many fouls.

Harding 7 looked a lot more confident, tried going past a few players, didnt seem to get skinned either, which is an improvement.

Mayo 6 Did nothing wrong or great.

Currie 6 didnt get much of the ball, but made some very nice passes.

Hinsh 7 , very good first half, probably his best perfomance, faded in second and gave the ball away on a couple of occasions.

Nicolas 5 , looked lost.

Molongo 5 continously offside, needs 2 hold ball up.

Knight 5, didnt do anything, gave ball away for first goal.
Subs

Jarrett 8, by far our best player, looked good when he came on.

Robinson 6, ran about, but didnt have any service to do much but looked dangerous.

I don't think Molango and Knight will work. They didn't have much understanding or appear to talk to each other. I would like to see McPhee back and given another go. Re-Kuipers. Without him, we would have lost by six or seven. some of his saves in the latter stages were top class. I can't see how he could be faulted for Goal 2. Agree that we back off forwards too often. We did it for that goal. Wigan's forward play was class though. Ellington is clearly premiership class. Good midfield too - particularly down the right (Wigan that is).
Highlight of the afternoon was the sprinklers. They drenched anybody who went on to the pitch, particularly the bimbos with the big dusters !!
Stadium - pretty average for a new ground. Not helped by empty seats, but good acoustics (unfortunately heard to best effect when the goals were scored) Brilliant seating position and free parking right beside the stand.

kuipers was at fault for second, ball didnt go in top corner and didnt have much pace, looked like he was too far off his line. but the sprinklers on the cheerleaders was funny :clap2:

Ratings...

Kuipers 6 Brilliant saves. Always exposed when defenders back off. Unlucky with the bounce for 3rd.

Virgo 4 Pretty poor. Move him to centre back.

Butters 5 Did not do anything wrong but the sooner he is replaced by Linford Christie, Adam Virgo or Dean Blackwell, the better.

Cullip 2 Abysmal.

Harding 6.473074207423 Good game. MOTM

Mayo 10 Gets 10 for only shot on target, and that was a fluke. Other than that pretty poor.

Currie 3.75 Slow

Hinsh 6 Cannot fault him for being played out of position but was slow and is quiet clearly no more a midfielder than Piers Benjamin is a tee-totaller

Nicolas 5 On emidfielder we at least notice

Molongo 4 Didn't wave at us. Knight tried to feed him but he was not hungry

Knight 7 Same size as Dennis Wise apparently. Did ok.

Subs

Jarrett 6 Looked better than Mayers but yet to convince me

Robinson 5 Showed some touches which are sure to excite a few

Ref 0 Gay [/B][/QUOTE]
