Back home....
Poor first half from the Albion with, if anything, Rovers looking more threatening. Ref and lino in front of us were giving us nothing, including several very obvious off-sides against Rovers forwards.
Just before halftime, Jones beats his man wide left and goes down under a strong challenge. It was too far away from us to judge, but Jones displayed his anger at only getting a corner and not a penalty.
Shortly after, and in the same corner, Jones puts a tackle in and, as the home fans give "Off Off Off", the ref obliges with a straight red. Jones was very angry. Again it was too far away to comment, but his reaction told the story of what he thought.
In the second half, 10 man Albion looked a different team and the more likely to score. McPhee scored with an overhead kick from 7 or 8 yards out and celebrated in full shirt off stylee.
Carpenter replaced Oatway and later Harding replaced a tired McPhee.
After the goal the Albion looked more and more likely to score, with Mayo, Harding and Knight all having good chances to tie the game up.
Roberts picked up a needless yellow. Having taken an age to not take a goal kick, he then went to adjust the ball again - the ref had no choice but to book him.
I was very impressed with Knight who is very tricky indeed. McPhee and Harding also looked a lot better than I would have hoped. Maybe Martin Hinshelwood was right and was either a year early and/or a division too far too soon. Roberts was, in the main, commanding, but his kicking seemed worse than Kuipers.
Good to meet Turkey, DTES and Artois.
My god - we're on a cup run!
