Students at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy were kept inside school as police responded to reports of a man armed with a machete in woodland nearby. No-one was harmed and pupils were later escorted out to return home, Sussex Police said. A search of the area is continuing.

Wow, hope all is well, Hugo. Sounds as though there'll be plenty of police around there, though, so the bloke concerned is probably long gone.

If he was in the woods with a machete, he was probably just collecting firewood.

Why does the media always describe large knives as machetes?

They are not the same thing. It is just needlessly dramatising. Just call it a large knife, if that is what it is.

How do you know it was a large knife? Was it you?

Thanks for your concern. All fine now and Sussex Police have tweeted the incident is over. She is back, she actually went to Stanmer Park......phew.

So what should they call it if it is a machete?

I've been over Stanmer woods in the past and walked passed a man with a proper machete......collecting bean sticks for his allotment.
I know in this day and age you can't be too careful because of all the nutters running around, but let's have the facts first so we can ignore them.........
