Oh I do realise this I just feel for an Albion+ member who may have built up 50-100 points for their loyalty over the season who instead of starting their first ST season with a small batch of points has to start again - I suppose this is compensated by the fact that they jump up a level for away games

By becoming a STH they get the points for holding a Season Ticket. It wouldn't be right to get 2 x points for home games attended. They keep the away points at 50% the same as an STH would.

What happens if I become a season ticket holder?
Your loyalty points balance earned by attending away matches and/or home cup matches are carried forward with the usual 50% reduction each season. Any points earned for attending home league matches will be removed. You will be given a priority level for your season-ticket status plus the points carried forward from attending away matches and or home cup matches. You will not be credited any bonus points as these apply only once you renew for a consecutive season.

I’ve been following Brighton for many years but as I’m based in Manchester and not a season ticket holder so I struggle for some of the bigger games like Liverpool and the Manchester clubs. So, I am glad of the Burnley’s and Sheffield Uniteds because I can get tickets to those.
one of my biggest frustrations is that I can never stand with my friends who are season ticket holders any more.
I can’t think of a fairer solution as the season ticket holders are the fans who have given the club the stability in the Championship and Premier League which has enabled our success. I have to accept that not being able to go to any game I want to is a price of our success.

Did you manage to get an Anfield seat this time around? Going by the match thread, lots of away day regulars watched it on TV, to spend the special Easter holiday with the family.

No unfortunately not. Have managed to get to both the Manchester games though

totally agree with this. I still think the new rules were draconian in the face of a small problem. Wednesday my son was ill so didn’t go. Previously I’d have passed on to a friend who could have gone to a match that he would never have got a ticket for. I think there was value in that. Instead we had an empty seat. Makes no sense.

I had two tickets which were going unused due to illness and plans changing and I know @El Presidente also had a ticket going unused.

For a game like Brentford, where there would be literally thousands of Albion fans who would have been able to get to the game at short notice, it just feels very wrong.

Absolutely - I'm certainly sympathetic to factors like that.

I was particularly frustrated when for Spurs, which was digital ticketing, the club were unable to do anything about the ticket I was unable to use. I didn't want anything back, I just wanted to give someone else the chance to go.

Last bit of page 3 clearly states that they have a process for when supporters can't attend having bought a ticket. It's a current document on the club website and hasn't been amended. And yet when people contact the club - as I did end of last year with a good 12 days notice before the Arsenal game when e-tickets hasn't even been sent out, I was just told no, we don't do it. I struggle to understand why they say one thing - especially when they say "we understand' - and do the complete opposite.

I do have some sympathy to be fair, many of the top away point holders are there because they did the miles in the championship (as I did) when it was pretty easy for anybody to go to most away matches including the easy to get to matches whereas newer supporters, maybe those who were not old enough in the championship years now can only go to the likes of Burnley or Liverpool on Easter Sunday and it's quite difficult to build up the points. However doing the miles in the championship enabled those to be first in line to do the miles in the Premier league so were rewarded for their loyalty.

I don't think length of support is the deciding factor , prior to the promotion I went to 4 away games I now have enough points to get Bournemouth tickets because I did/ and do a lot of away games including the long trips. Obviously being a season ticket holder gives a large initial boost but so does going the distant, 'up North' clubs.

I think the major deterrent is the cost of going away , I go by coach which is cheaper than the train but with ticket, food, drink & coach its probably £100-120 a game. Its also not helped that Burnley and the others are 6.5+ hours each way on the coach.

i Don’t go to many away games but never had a problem with D7jr being a MyAlbion member. I never expect a London ticket but had no problems for the likes of Villa and Man City. Burnley is easy to get ticket for and I’m not going back ever!

The system the club has is very ‘one size fits all’ and fails to acknowledge that life isn’t as simple as ordering an away ticket as soon as becomes available and then nothing changing in terms of your personal circumstances.

I’ve got plenty of loyalty points so usually in tier one. Try to get to as many away games as possible, and will be at Burnley on Saturday for example.

Last season there were occasions in which I’d bought tickets in good faith but decided not to attend at relatively short notice. My son in law had a brain tumour and was dying. Sometimes myself and my wife prioritised looking after him, his wife and their pre-school children if he had had a bad few days or we felt they needed some respite.

This isn’t virtue signalling of anything similar, any Albion fan would have done the same under the circumstances.

As a result because of the away ticket rules seats were unused yet there were Albion fans wanting to attend.

It should not be beyond the wit of man or modern IT systems to ensure two objectives (a) seat is used and (b) behaviour is acceptable from person using the seat.

It’s a trivial irrelevance to me not receiving loyalty points for such a match. I’m not there, so shouldn’t receive anything.

Surely advising the club that I’m not attending but take responsibility for the behaviour of the person who does use the ticket is a fair compromise.

If they behave like a bellend and abuse staff/stewards etc then they get the book thrown at them.

I get punished too with an away match ban etc for exercising poor judgement in giving them the ticket. As a 60+ year old teetotal teacher though most of my mates are not the coked up Green Street wannabes who are likely to misbehave should they be given a ticket.

This season I’ve been lucky to be offered hospitality or board room as rightly or wrongly, being a dullard has resulted in bafflingly some people/organisations wanting to entertain.

This is great for my wife as she doesn’t have enough LP so can attend a few more matches and there’s free fizz to knock back. Roma is such as example, as was FA Cup semi final last year. Contacted club offering my away end tickets back and was turned down. Don’t want refund either. For both matches there were loads of Albion fans who wanted to attend these prestigious and memorable occasions yes seats were empty because of the system.

At Brentford on Wednesday I ended up in the boardroom at invitation of home team (apparently one of the tickets originally allocated to the away team wasn’t being usef, no idea why). Ironically sat two seats away from PBOBE. So in similar circumstances to that of @Bozza mentioning above seats were empty. I don’t see how this is a good thing.

Agree with all of that. The club seem to be using a sledgehammer to crack the small-ish nut of people in highest tiers buying tickets for 'mates' that wouldn't be able to get a ticket for games that sell out before getting to members for example.

When I knew I couldn't go to the Arsenal game last December, I contacted Supporter Services 12 days before the day of the match - and before e-tickets had been issued. I told them I wasn't asking for a refund, but didn't want my seat to go empty with the match already sold out. They made a mistake in their first response to me as they said they couldn't as tickets had already been posted. I replied saying tickets were e-tickets and hadn't been sent - but was then just told, "we don't do it anyway". So I gave up.
