Now I sometimes read stuff on here that simply just blows me away in utter disbelief and this im not going to palace as its too much hassle just about takes the biscuit and ive never heard such shite in my life!

Now as rivalries go I apprecaite its not an old firm game or north London affair but come on guys, its about as good as it gets for us and there the team everyone loves to hate, im shocked at some fans attitude to what has to be seen as the biggest game of the season, what else comes close I ask you? What else stirs the blood with passion and adrenaline?

I appreciate those who have children and extra-ordinary circumstances but if you simply cant be bothered then I guess no game really gets you going and football is just something you do to fill up the weekend, if thats the case, I hope it never means that little to me. Its not my life far from it but Palace away is a different feeling entirely.

Im not interested in fighting them or abusing them, I just want 3 points off them and this for me is the most important 3 points there is until the next time we play them!

Its not like were in scotland and we play them 4x per year on a yearly basis, Ive been following us for 20 years and have only ever been to a handful of games due to being in different divisions and therefore its still very fresh and even for those who are 40 plus, its not been a season by season ding song for 20 years has it.

If you cant be bothered with a bit of rough and tumble from the police and an hour kept in selhurst you need to liven yourself up, what else you going to do on a saturday afternoon, take fcuking orders off the missus and end up half dead wandering around a garden centre looking at pot plants!

At the end of the day if you cant make it due to decent reasons fair play but if you just simply cant be bothered then maybe the garden centre is a good shout every week as your clearly a bit of a gnome yourself.

WE HATE PALACE!!!!!

Made me smile.

I'll be there. I just don't want to be kept in. Actually think it might be just as safe if they just let us all out together to be honest. See it as an experiment (whilst I get on a train and go home.)

Agreed. Maybe the Amex has softened a lot of our supporters up. Reading things like "I can't be bothered to go because of wooden seats, nasty police officers, horrible pubs and the possibility of having to wait in the cold after the game" is pathetic. Still, at least we sold out, but it makes you wonder whether we would if we had an extra few thousand tickets. We really have gone soft.

I admit I'm one of the "can't be arsed" brigade for this one.

I think I WILL end up regretting it if we actually pull off a win. But after considering the fact I've been there LOADS of times before, the fact that its £34 for the worst ground in the division, the fact I'd have to meet up MILES away from Selhurst for the pre-match drinks, the general aggravation getting away afterwards, and the overall consideration that as awaydays go it simply won't be very enjoyable, I'm giving it a swerve.

10-15 years ago I wouldn't have given a toss about any of that and would have gone regardless, so fair play and good luck to those who are attending. But I simply can't be arsed these days to put up with all the crap surrounding this game. I'm very much looking forward to a few jars in the civilised local surroundings of the Amex in front of the beamback.

Its me age.

Its not pathetic at all. Its called a choice.

I've done it plenty of times in the past, I don't see why you think I'm under some kind of permanent obligation to make this trip every time it comes up.

No one is obligated to go, but the number of people whining on here about the fixture and how they don't want want to go for the reasons specified in my post makes me cringe. Fair enough, you've done your time with regards to attending this fixture and you're all grown up etc. Enjoy the beam-back and lets hope we win.

Naa, none of us who are ITK will be there, we're all going Christmas shopping. We'll let all the bobblehats have a day out so they can say they've 'been to Palace'

For me its a great derby game and rivalries are good , but i just cannot put up with all the vitriol that goes on at this game and genuinally feel a tad unsafe at smellhurst.

The grounds a dump, the towns a shithole but they're our rivals and it would take a lot to stop me going.
So what, we may get held back, we may get kettled, we will get abused but thats all part of having such a fierce rivalry, but that away stand, the pub, the station, and the train home will be rocking if we do actually manage a win* !
I actually can't wait !

*It will be shit if we lose though.

Even as a Crystal Palace supporter of many years I have to admit that we're just another Football League club. We're not really worth your while dignifying us with a mention every time you play a game that we're not involved in.

I think its a great post for byf1 actually. I'd been to the Withdean several times with both Palace and my old man's team Carlisle. For me the game (Palace v Brighton) is the most important fixture (and the reverse) of the calendar (when you guys have got your act together to get in the same division as us so we can play each other). I respect what Tony Bloom has done for you but come derby day I want to rip you apart (in football terms only chaps). Perhaps those nice cushioned seats, and nice real ale has softened you to real football. (Amazed if it has after only 18 months in a great ground though). I'm glad to see you sold out your allocation (always nice to have a bit of cash off you to stave off yet another administration) and will be looking forward to beating you, taking 3 points and leaving you out in the cold (literally).

Theres a reason this rivalry comes in the top ten for football rivalries in all those rubbish list programs that keep BBC3 ticking over....so don't you lot forget it :)

I'm working in Belfast at the end of next week, and not flying back til Saturday. If I was desperate to spend my Saturday in the company of two groups of small-minded angry faced men, glowering at each other with distrust and barely concealed contempt, I 'd just stay on another day.

To be honest if we are are held in for more a considerable amount of time this year I don't think I'll go again (certainly not in the away end). Just not worth the bother.
