Omelette in his pocket. Also, by his logic means until he bought two years ago he was also a twat.

He's a lesbian!

Yes, and anorexic. This is what happens when you get conned and buy a house in Brighton. Also quite funny that all those smug bastards who boast they can afford to buy in Brighton are going to come very unstuck in the next year or so. Enjoy your overpriced terraced houses fools!

The problem is they refuse to let us have any tenancy longer than 6 months at a time, knowing full well that earns them £100 a year rather than just the £50.

I hate it SO much.

So does anyone know where I stand regarding trying to get the landlord on our side and renting through him cutting out the agents? I know when we first moved in he was overseas so it stands to reason that he had an agent looking after it all, but now he's back in the country wouldn't it suit us all to deal direct?

You can always approach your landlord. I use Leaders, and if a tenant (after the first 6 months) is a good client, I always allow a 12 monthly contract. Incidentally, not only the tenant pays a renewal fee..............so does the Landlord, usually the same amount as the Tenant pays.
With regard to approaching the Landlord to cut out the Letting Agent, I,m often asked to do this, but usually decline, due to the fact that I pay the agents a reduced commission due to having a few properties being let. If I let privately with one or two tenants, this could jeopardise this arrangement.
I think you,ll find most Landlords can be just as disappointed in letting Agents as the tenant. I hope you resolve your difficulties.

Yes what a twat I am. Bought through a freind who is a developer for 20k under market value. Increased in price 80k and the mortgage is less then the price of renting..........mmmm what a twat indeed.

You two are a pair of ****s.

Dwayne? Is that you?

Excuse me while I don't leap for joy at your announcement that after 20 years of graft you've finally managed to buy your own home and [not boasting of course] you've done a marvellous job in buying it on the cheap and watching its value rise. I mean this really puts my rental dilemma into perspective. How foolish of me, why don't I just pop into the bank and ask them if I can have a £180k mortgage to buy a pokey 1 bed shithole, interest only of course, the repayments of which would OBVIOUSLY be so much cheaper than my current monthly rent on a property worth 3 times that. It seems so obvious now. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll just be popping off to Northern Rock then. Do I need any documents with me at all or can they just swipe my Visa Electron before handing over the keys?

Property ladder here I come

Have you got any proof that your rent has been protected in an approved Tenancy Deposit Scheme?

If not, you can take action against your agent/landlord and, if your deposit has not been protected, you will receive a sum equivalent to 3 months rent from them. Would be a nice bit of recompense for your pain...

Well I've never hidden any of this and yet I was the only one of my housemates who came through the credit check with no need for a guarantor. Work that one out

Luckily Property Moves just had an "introduction" service with our landlord. Dealt with them to get a place and don't deal with them anymore.

That sounds like what I'm after. Someone to vet the landlord, we pay them a one off fee, and then they're out of the equation.

Thick and ignorant. I said until two years ago. Obviously buying a place is the ideal but not always possible. As for me being a **** I'd very much like to see you say that to my face.
