It was absolutely quality and the only positive to take out the game. When I say atmosphere I mean us applauded and cheering them when they scored and vice-versa for us.It was quality and I really enjoyed it.Songs that I enjoyed today included:

'We're going to win 2-1'
'We're going to win 3-2'
'We're going to win 4-3'
'We're going to win 5-4'
'We're going to win 6-5'
'We can see you sneaking out'(to all Albion fans that passed Blck B'
'If you're all still renewing clap your hands'(No-one claps)
'Alan Curbishley's Blue and White army'

Also the throwing of many coloured balloons for a period of the second half until they were taken by a bunch of 4 year olds as a souvenier.

Oh and the game was crap:albion:

It was quite amusing towards the end of the match but it was a great shame that it had to be that way. There was virtually no chanting and no atmosphere created by our supporters before that. I know the early goal didn't help and there was nothing to play for, but it may have helped if we'd got behind the team from the start. It was absolutely dead. Very disappointing.

Did you lead many songs yourself?

We're not all Krispies! Some us are not extrovert enough to lead songs, but join in, unlike some who just sit there and moan throughout!

Have we (collectively) let Withdean become too much of a barrier? Some away fans have shown that an atmosphere can be created.

My mind springs back to Hull and Leeds, when there was a decent atmosphere for different reasons, and the performance matched it.

Is it a self fulfilling prophecy? Atmosphere = decent performance or do we need a decent performance for a good atmosphere?

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Or something like that...

"Cheer up Mark McGhee..." got a laugh, although some people in H Block did have the grace to wince a bit when it reached "... and a shit football team".

Unfortunately it often seem to be the case that many people only sing when we're winning rather than trying to encourage the team and spur them on.

At Withdean, we need a decent performance for a good atmosphere. Whatever people say, we never have (and never will have), a decent atmosphere in that place watching football like we have this season.

But then, on the road, we had a decent atmosphere vs Reading yet that wasn't the best performance ever.

Interesting points. You're right - away fans have often shamed the home fans that outnumber them 5 or 6 to 1. But isn't that just the way of the world with away fans - the Albion travelling faithful are the same.

More often than not it is not a good performance that spurs Withdean into action but some controversy from the ref, the opposing manager or an opposing player of hate...

I sat in D block singing 'Brighton, passion like fire' on my own with a croaky voice while swaying slightly.

what we need is barbed wire- flares and turkish style ambience to put the fear of god up the visiting side -

Over the top me thinks - perhaps all supporters should be given mini voice amplifier devices, or what ever they are all called - the site of 5 thousand people singing into them would be amusing at the least.

But if you read my post, the first two words are clearly "At Withdean."

It's a different matter away from home, as a different "type" of fan goes IMO. People who turn up at Withdean seem to expect to be entertained and to see us win. If it doesn't go to plan (usually within the first five minutes), then they moan.

On the other hand, if you have just travelled for four hours to get to some obscure town up north, or even if a few thousand have got themselves somewhere like Reading, you are going to sing and have a good time whatever is happening on the pitch, as you have put in so much effort to be there.

I did see that, you patronising lit......;)

I meant that it is not hard for the fans, as a group to make some noise. We desperately need it, and if the Brighton away fans can do it, then the Brighton home fans can do the same.
