inspired by a comment made by someone in the thread about what to get on the back of next season's shirt, interested to know what people think about wearing replica shirts to games.

i'm in my late 20s, but wouldn't think twice about wearing my shirt. i think it looks great when everyone's decked out in blue and white. but clearly this isn't a universally-held view.

so, when does it become a bit tittish?

At a match - never too old
Around town / on holiday - OK when you're under 20
Full grown adult in full Albion kit - looks stupid all the time unless you're actually playing football.

Never too old IMHO, with the number of prem shirts wandering about the stripes are sadly in the minority

Around about puberty. Likewise I know that my view isn't universally shared and if adults want to walk round in a bits of garish, overpriced nylon/polyester with the name of a Korean typewriter manufacturer (copyright Ben Elton) emblazoned across the front in big, day-glo letters I suppose it isn't my place to object. 'Takes all sorts' as they say.

However asking 'what should I get on the back of my shirt', or worse, getting your NSC username on the back of your shirt is inexcusable once your age reaches double figures.

I don't get people who say its sad to wear a shirt at matches if you're over 10. Its a f***ing football match, not a fashion show! Wear your team's colours and support them.

Never. I'm 28 and don't have any problems wearing one.

I'd say that once you're an adult, you should never be seen wearing full kit (quite recently I saw a guy with his 2 kids, all three of them wandering around some shops in full Liverpool kit - shirt, shorts & socks pulled up). Just a shirt though is all good...

i don't think it's how old you are, it's where you wear it. So imo you can wear a replica shirt at any age if you are watching your team at a football ground. If you are wearing it to go shopping/ down the pub / visit rellies etc then I think puberty is the cut -off. There is an argument for wearing your replica to the pub to watch your team in that teams town core area of support (though Guildford doesn't for count Man U)

i havent worn a current shirt to a game since i turned 18

i do on very rare occasions however bust out a retro one. the tsb kit that came with the stripey shorts could for example make an appearance on saturday

I just wear the 70's retro one these days, usually to the match. I like the simple classic design and having no sponsors on it, havn't bought a replica shirt for a good few years now.

Sometimes I wear it down the pub, and yes, I'll probably wear it on my holibobs abroad sometimes as well during the day at least (not in the evening when we're out for meals and whatnot mind).

NEVER the full kit though. Thats just wrong on so many levels.

[edit]

I am late 30's. Ahem.

My wife likes me to wear the full kit to bed - even the boots. I'm 78.

Quite right it's not a fashion show! I'm glad you don't want or feel the need to buy a new shirt every time the club release a new design.

Its not so much your age - its more about how you look wearing it. I'd say you're too old when you look like you couldn't run the length of a football pitch without having a heart attack.

Let us not forget that the greatest thread in NSC history - Hiney Art - was spawned by a grown man wearing a replica shirt on his holidays...
