now, it may be my irrational hatred for the man that makes me notice his mistakes and ignore his anti-mistakes

but he's not that good is he?

-makes mistakes that lead to chances

-plays aimless long balls

-doesn't contribute THAT MUCH going forward

in my view he's been the weakest england player in recent games (of the regulars) and always fails to impress me, and he was sloppy today

i'll admit that he's decent at getting up and down the pitch, but this doesn't make up for the fact that he isn't that great at all that defending lark

imo like

He's the best left-back we have though, Bridge is a good player but is too complacent and Baines seems to have bad luck with injuries.

But oddly he is still reputed to be on £120K+ a week. What a waste of money.

ive always thought he's better goin forward than defending, for a defender.....that aint that good to be fair?

tonight he didnt get forward, and was a bit of a liability at the back, save one good moment.

get rid.

he's not ACTUALLY that good going forward though is he? maybe i'm missing something but he never scores and i rarely seem to notice him assisting anything.....he sure as hell can't cross

he's decent at going up and down, and making space i guess

although i don't really rate him, i'd be tempted by bridge......atleast he can defend

I don't know many left backs that do score goals ???

He's a MUCH better crosser of the ball than Bridge, he hits the first man 90-95% of the time.

i'm not saying i want a hattrick from him every game, but considering he's supposed to be AMAZING going forward he actually offers very little

and i'm doubting that statistic of yours a little bit

in terms of bridge, yes wor wayne aint great going forward but he's a better defender than cole in my view

THAT performance by Bridge against Croatia still haunts me. I said that day that he should never wear an England shirt again - It was horrendous, verging on treacherous

I think he's a good left back, but he's been crap recently. I think Bridge has been remarkable at Man City, I've never liked him before but now he's actually playing, he seems to be rather good. £12million seems a bit steep for him though.

And I'm always going to love Leighton Baines, for his exploits on FM.

Very good for Chelsea, not so good for England. Similarly to most of the England team really.

Doesn't get the freedom going forward that he gets when playing for Chelsea.

As for Bridge, no way is he better defensively than Ashley. The first three goals City conceded with Bridge in the team were all from Bridge mistakes, not blatant mistakes but positional errors.

Nicky Shorey at Villa is another option, although he doesn't seem to play much under Matin O'Neill

Stephen Warnock hasn't really had a chance either, although that's probably because he plays for Blackburn.
