Well, took a couple of mates to the game today, so they could sample the 'top fans atmosphere' I keep bragging about...

So, what do we get?

1. Fans fighting amongst themselves, and getting thrown out.
2. Some old trout in an orangey top (back row of the lower seating - you know who you are...) offering fellow Brighton fans outside, shouting w***ker at them (backed up by two camp looking fellas...)
3. Idiots shouting "Istanbul", and making stabbing motions (Row V, standing in the isles)...

We haven't exactly covered ourselves in glory here, have we....

On top of all this, the performance was poor, and the stewarding was overzealous to the extreme....

Let's hope for better next time....

Does anyone know what went on here?! This was just across from where I was sat all kicked off very suddenly...were some leeds fans may have been involved as well?!

At times things got a bit confrontational, and there was plenty of goading and brinksmanship from our chaps.

I thought the stewards showed reasonable restraint when they could have waded in more severely had they wanted to.

Very true, although the guys in suits just looked plain stupid to be honest it was a bit of a gesture the guy at the end saying thanks for coming etc never had that at a football ground before!

Yup I don't think you can really blame the stewards too much. It's a pain in the arse, especially when some places are more leniant about it, but I think I'm right in saying that the stewards only threw a couple of people out when they could have had hundreds out for repeatedly getting up. We were very lucky, our seats were one row from back and at the very right hand side of the stand as you look at the pitch, which meant we not only had an okay view (looking at the pitch side on), but the stewards also didn't bother sitting us down all match.

What went on with the guy chucked out? I assued at first that it was a case of stewards being overzealous and using excessive force to pick on one fan randomly for standing, but it seems he was fighting with other Brighton fans as the stewards were over there for ages working out what was going on.

As for the Istanbul chant, didn't hear it, am glad about that, I hope the Leeds fans didn't either. Fans like that give the club a bad name, when our away support should be well known for coming in large numbers and making a lot of noise.

agreed, i don't think the stewards were that zealous - hate to break the news but we have some pricks amongst our ranks.

Re the guy thrown out - i heard the woman steward talking to a couple of their stewards saying it was a leeds fan who lived in brighton and travelled up with the brighton fans, perhaps it was him that was thrown out?

1. Seemed to involve an old geezer with white hair and a younger bloke , OB and stewards quickly intervened before it spread further.
2. Old dear completely lost it , bless , did see her speak to a bloke who has followed the Stripes for years but originally hails from Yorkshire - was she trying to get him to lose his temper ? btw dont always assume they are camp looking fellas as one of our fans is transgender.

If you've never been to a football match then that would be a reasonable assumption but don't be naive or high and mighty, because you know as well as I do that this isn't a realistic possibility all the time. All it takes is a little common sense from stewards to know when and when not it is reasonable to expect everyone to be sitting down. I saw a steward escort and old man on a stick and his mate from the last few rows where everyone was standing to the front where he could sit down and enjoy the match, thats the sort of stewarding that is good for everyone and I didn't think Leeds stewards were too bad today.

My son is a type 1 diabetic and has to keep the circulation going in his feet so cannot sit down for long periods inactive. So does the Disability Discrimination Act take precedence over stadium rules ? Would sensible stewards normally back down when told that he has diabetes and allow him to stand ?

1. Bloke pissed as a fart asked to sit down, turned round and stuck one on the askee! Deserved to be heaved out.
2. Old Trout is one of our most loyal fans - goes to nearly every game home and away - her husband - another very loyal fan lost an eye in Istanbul supporting England - no wonder she lost her cool!

we normally stand at the back anyway as the stewards at most games are not Orange/Yellow Nazis and use their initiative with travelling fans.

Couldnae decide whether I liked it or not. Few things I enjoy more than a good bit of rioting, so it was kind of fun watching people being indiscriminately yoinked out by some jumped-up private schoolboy turd in a suit, even if one of them was my mate. Mrs Inkerman getting upset by something obviously indicated some nasty business, she is one of the loveliest of all the lovelies at the Albion and I hope retribution was swift and unrelenting. The Istanbul chants were repulsive, but done by the usual attention-seeking idiots, so best laughed at for their dazzling ignorance. Then it all kicked off on the pitch without the diminishing citement of a red card, which is always nice to see. To top it all off, Dwayne was there and walking the walk again with a very attractive young lady on his arm! And, bizarrely, I liked one of the Kaiser Chiefs songs they played. And musical Goddess Amanda Palmer was in the programme courtesy of her Leeds United song (key lyric - "who needs love when there's law and order?"........)

It were a right strange couple of hours, to be sure Des.
