Asda Back Off!

The following was recently posted on another forum by an employee of the club.

Following action taken by members of North Stand Chat and other Albion
supporters, Richard Hebberd (Albion's Safety Advisor) has met with the new
manager at Brighton Asda.

The petition to the council has been pulled from the store and will not be
part of any submission Asda may make to the council. Any submission they do
make (if indeed they do make one) will be based purely on technical grounds.

In addition, meetings have been arranged for next week between the transport
consultants, Richard and the store manager to overcome any technical
concerns Asda may have.

We will keep North Stand Chat updated with the outcome of those meetings. In
the meantime the club would like to ask supporters to suspend any proposed
actions against Asda.

The actions taken by NSC have directly led to the opening of negotiations
between both parties and the withdrawal of the petition; the club is
extremely grateful to NSC and its users for this.

mmmm:glare:

Wallmart / Asda may be a muti national concern, but reading between the lines, they're starting to realise this could turn into a local public relations disaster for them and maybe ( ? ) they're looking for a way out.

The club press officer posted it on the Seagulls Mailing List, which Bozza is on.

Why was it posted on another forum? Why not on here?

Cos if the club press officer posted it here they would have to give away their user name......oh err.

Anyone who knows me will agree that I am niave & sometimes stupid in certain matters so I don't understand why can't this appear on the official club site?
If it's a statement from the club where will it appear?
If it appears in the press and on the telly as an official statement then surely it is attributed to the club fully and squarely - not publishing it on the website won't hide the fact of who said it.
Need to understand.

The reasons are not obvious to me either, unless its a contractual thing, no fratanising with the enemy, sorry supporters etc.

Or the fact that we will be playing at Falmer before the official website actually runs this story.

I was more interested in the next but one message:

From tomorrow's paper...(presumably the Anus?)

STADIUM YES - WITH STRINGS!
Albion's new stadium at Falmer has got the green light
from the Government but with more than THREE HUNDRED conditions.

The Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott, has accepted a watered down version of the stadium proposals, which had been overwhelmingly backed by the people of Sussex, Brighton & Hove councillors and The Argus.

.........pity he had to go and ruin it with the Bat Cave clause!!!!

No roz, its from NSC or am I missing the point?

The current situation with the extra seats and Park & Ride is that the City Council have given planning permission for the extra seats, subject to a condition - that a new P&R site is secured.

The Council have also agreed in principle that this should be at Carden Avenue. However, the law requires that a Traffic Regulation Order is made by the Highway Authority (which is also the City Council) to allow the road to be closed on matchdays.

The City Council has drafted the Order, but before it comes into effect, it must be publicly advertised to allow any interested parties to object (or support it).

The closing date for representations is next Monday. The decision will be taken on the basis of technical issues - such as whether any serious road safety problems will arise, or whether unacceptable levels of traffic congestion will be created.

Having already received planning permission, the Football Club no doubt feel that they should not be seen to campaign actively in support of a Traffic Regulation Order. However, ASDA took a different view - and campaigned against it.

Hence our campaign against ASDA. In this instance, it was genuinely a fans' campaign - not sponsored by the Club in any way. It's now up to US to decide whether or not to go easy on ASDA now that we have got the spectacular result that we have achieved - in just 24 hours.

The Club is rightly keeping a low profile. Although we all appreciate the thanks that they have given (privately) to NSC and its users.
