Ok, I accept it’s a single game of football, I accept that our players have not all become dreadful overnight, and I accept that their third goal shouldn’t have stood. However, I am grumpy.

Especially because after feeling that we got bullied through the first half, I thought we looked a lot better at the start of the second. It’s horrible when we hit a slump. I hope players and staff can pick themselves up for the rest of the season. I will do the same.

The trouble is that we are still trying to pass the ball through a dozen players in the box or walk the ball into the net. There were several times when we could have taken a shot to force a save but didn’t.

Also, our transition is too slow. On a couple of occasions we had taken 4 or 5 of their players out of the play but our attack was too slow.

Add all that to too many unforced errors and you’ve got a team that just isn’t being incisive enough.

We need to put in a class performance on Sunday to get that confidence back.

Far too easy to cut through our midfield unfortunately. Let's hope it is addressed over the summer & not with the freebies.
Commentator made a good comment around a realisation to the club we'd need to go up another notch. The reluctance to get the quick shot away remains bloody annoying.
We can only get better from here.
Van Hecke on Lukaku next week hopefully, as good as Dunky is, he struggles with powerful centre forwards.

The time wasting antics😡. The fella laying on the floor in box and he still blows bang on 5 minutes.

Just really have to suck that one up!

we were up against one of the power houses of Italian football and we are a team who can’t score goals apart from against really poor sides.

we have our 15 minutes of fame in the group stage and nothing will take that away from us.

it is not RDZ fault that we , when put though or the ball put on our head, cannot hit a barn door with a banjo. He said he wanted more players in January and the management of the club decided that they knew better and didn’t back him. He will now go and we will look back on his tenure as one of mostly pure joy.

you cannot lose Pedro and Mitoma ( and march ), enciso 90% of the season and Fati for 3 months as well as losing and not replacing Mac Alister and Caciedo and expect the rest to step up.

The trick is now not to have this season fizzle out. We have some big games coming up and we need to be up for them.

that said, my chelsea ticket will be on the exchange as golf competition season starts in a couple of weeks.

It’s felt like this has been coming really. Our early season wins papered over the fact that we’ve downgraded our squad. Igor < Colwill, Gilmour < Mac Allister and Baleba < Caicedo. Couple that with injuries to key players in Mitoma, Pedro, March and a few players clearly not fully fit/up to speed (Estupinan, Dunk, Enciso) and not sure we really had a chance of doing much better than we have in this competition.

Welbeck had three really good chances. If one of those goes in, it's game on. 4-0 was not a fair reflection and the dodgy VAR call killed the game. We are always most vulnerable after conceding, a la Newcastle away last season.

I’d really like to see clear lines for their third. It was clearly offside to me and how it was given seems staggering. That said, we were really rather poor. We desperately need to find a plan B rather than doggedly playing plan A when it isn’t working.

It was always going to be a big ask to beat them but seemed to capitulate after their third.

It would have been helpful if Welbeck could have taken one of his 3 good chances. It might have helped turn the game.
How many times have we said that this season

This is the truth, and that's not a criticism on the current players. Caicedo is just irreplaceable, and Ali Mac is just that class above Billy.

Don’t worry though we’ll give him another 5 year contract to allow us to enjoy him missing many more chances for years to come!

Very disappointing. Was looking forward to the game next week. I know this will sound like I’m bad loser, but surely that 3rd goal was offside, players shoulder looks clearly ahead of the line. If it stayed at 2-0 at that point in the game we maybe still have a chance.
They took all of 10 seconds to check it, must have been clearly onside??!!.. absolute joke of a decision.

I hope we don’t all go AWOL. That would be tinpot.

It's not over yet . . . Stranger things have happened . . . . . . to us!

We are seriously depleted . .Solly was on fire, as was MItoma, both gone . . . Enciso was great and not a shadow of his former self . . . .etc etc etc . . .

It's already clear this season will end in a minor wimper, compared to our wildly optimistic dream, but with good reason, but bloody hell, what a season anyway . . . . We've seen things we never ever dreamed would happed 25-30 years ago . . . . If RDZ peaked 3 months ago and TB takes £12m, great . . . If RDZ wants to knuckle down and learn, so we improve . . . with TB's backing, great . . . . any other scenario . . . . TB wins, we've learned and we move on.

The only indispensable is TB . . . . . and Pascal Gross . . . . We're f***ed without him 😬

The past couple of games really highlighted our problems this season. Didn't they? Didn't replace one of the best midfield of the last season. Becoming too predictable in our style of play. We are not trying anything new. We have a lot of possession but what are we doing with it? We have to be constructive. Just pass it around our center backs. There were many times when our wide players were free but the ball didn't go to them. We should have strengthened with atleast 3-4 players in January. Maybe we are expecting too much?

On th eplus side

I'm glad I didn't piut the £100 bet on us making the final, to offset the costs just in case we made it.
