In you PC world, how would you politely refer to a person with both white and non white parents then?
A Whigger, clearly

Questions said:Dont even go there mate. You will have Chesney on here in a minute preaching about what you can and cannot say to people with different colour skin.
Stick with ''mixed race'' or they will drag this thread out for over 100 pages.
or you could just say fcuk em and reply that they are too sensitive.
I stood next to the guy who threw the fruit ( no I did not know him )and I can assure everyone that it was a spontaneous gesture and not a premeditated act of racism.
Good job he never threw that potato he had or their Irish centre forward would have gone balistic.
Pork Sword said:If a leek was thrown at a Welshman would that be deemed as bad? I very much doubt it, so why the double standards.
The black fella should have found it funny.
To be honest, having lived for almost thirty years with nieces and a nephew who, I suppose, do fall into that category, I have to say that I've never even thought about the fact that they are of mixed race, nor struggled to find a "polite" way of referring to the matter.Dancin Ninja BHA said:In you PC world, how would you politely refer to a person with both white and non white parents then?
Barrel of Fun said:Jesus wept. There was an article in the Observer ( http://observer.guardian.co.uk/sport/story/0,,1934230,00.html ) and there is the general view from these mixed race sportsmen that the term 'half-caste' is offensive. It is nothing to do with being Politically Correct or what you can or can't do, but all about common decency. These people have said, openly, that the term half-caste is racist and that is good enough for me!
It would be an astounding coincidence that this person grabbed a banana from his bag and threw it in the direction of Darren Moore without a racial undercurrent - you do not have to be a genous to work that out!
Barrel of Fun said:Maybe because the Welsh have not been victimised, brutalised or discriminated against? You only need to look at the amount of racist incidents to see that there is a problem!
People of mixed races have said they find it offensive, so it shouldn't be an issue. But being a man who said that Fred West is misunderstood, I assume that would pass over your head.
H block said:Must be right then if it was in the Observer
Please refrain from using the Lords name when trying to make a point though as I find that offensive.
And whats a genous.
Were you standing near the lad who threw it. No you were not so how do you know what he meant by it.
Were Brighton fans in the habit of throwing bananas at black players 10 years ago.
Joke : what do you call a black man being chased by 300 white men.

Barrel of Fun said:Direct quotes from the acutal person would suggest that those sportsmen/women interviewed that are of mixes race, find the term half-caste offensive - how is that too difficult to understand? Have you heard from anyone in favour of the term, half-caste?!?
Fair enough. I am judging the chap that threw a banana in the direction of Darren Moore.
Genous was a mistyping on genius. The I and the O are next to each other and I the wine has obviously affected my touch typing.
For the record, I do find that joke funny as it makes a mockery of racism.

Questions said:This is a re-working of so many previous rows over what one person finds offensive compared to another. Half caste was considered ok up till quite recently until the phrase mixed race came about. Most dictionaries list it but not as an offensive term.
I struggle with the arguement that because some people of mixed race find it offensive then thats the end of the matter. . . ITS OFFENSIVE.
I think maybe mixed race does sound better but lets get real here , political correctness has gone mad on how we can address certain people.
Before you know it it will be considered bad form to go into a French restaurant and say to a waiter ''Whats on the menu you smelly garlic eating Froggie twat''

I would have thought that the term half-caste had become less acceptable since more and more people take notice of what the non-white population have to say.
Political correctness has gone mad, but I think that term is used too broadly. There are certain issues make sense, i.e. Half-caste--->mixed race etc. but not changing the name of christmas on cards and so on. The PC blanket has the propensity to fog over the real issues.
Questions said:I do agree but what I struggle with the fact that so many just say ''Thats offensive'' and that is the end of it.
If some one of mixed race said to me that they found the term half caste offensive then obviously I would never use that term in front of them again as it would be insulting because they had told me that they found it so.
I am now going to make more of an effort.
Short arse - person of restricted growth.
Baldy - follicly challenged
German - Goose stepping nazi - see I cant do it.
Early derivations are irrelevant, as indeed is Sanskrit - a language that is as dead as Latin. The Rig Veda was written over 3,000 years ago and is hardly a reliable basis for determining the meaning of words in today's society.Questions said:Lord Blacknell
Half-caste" is not only racist. It's a ridiculous phrase and displays a stupendous ignorance of Indian culture, all the more so because the caste system has nothing to do with race.
..................................................................................
The word "caste" is derived from the Portuguese casta, meaning "pure" or "chaste." The Sanskrit words varna and jati are commonly translated as "caste" but this is misleading and obscures important differences between them.
Varna refers to the form and colour of something and is used in the Rg Veda to differentiate the Aryans from the indigenous peoples. So we see that caste is in fact a colour definition as much as a social desription but please feel free to make this a RACIST thread once again.
