He's not been sacked. But what would your reaction be if he was sacked?

For me over the past 15 years he's been the second greatest manager in football.

Came to the club at a time of great need won the double in his first season, brought them 3 Premier leagues and 4 FA Cups with a invincible side. Then built a very young squad and sold on his previous legends (Anelka 25m Overmars Viera etc) suitable as he had to be financially stable with the new stadium and all. Managed to keep this team in the top 4 competing with the likes of Liverpool Utd City and Chelsea who all spend f*** loads while he spends nothing and instead sells.

Now however he hasn't won anything for 6 years (understandably as he's spent nothing and made massive transfer profits for the stadium) and has just lost his two best players. There was obviously nothing he could do about losing Cesc and Nasri - Cesc wanted to go home and to the best club in the world where as Nasri wanted more money.

The only criticism you can have of Wenger is that he hasn't signed any replacements or a centre half. But Arsenal have a wage structure which means players like Phil Jones and Juan Mata decide to move elsewhere obviously not Wengers fault. So he finds himself in a situation where he hasn't won a trophy for a few years and has started the season of badly or be it with 8 players out and his 2 best players gone. yet he still tries to play football the proper way! (the way we play it)

Harry Redknapp is a better manager when he gets in the champions league once by spending shed loads?

So my real point is if Wenger IS to get sacked it would be the biggest tragedy in football forced upon by greedy fans and media pressure. He has literally done nothing wrong.

I think that he will soon be invited to move upstairs and relinquish team duties. However I do not think he is the problem. I think that the problem is the major shareholder the American who doesn't wish to or cannot finance new players and he should allow Usmanov a greater say in the running of the club. Usmanov is as wealthy and best mates of Abramovich and they often spend time together at his house near Guildford. He owns the house that was previously owned by Paul Getty.

He hasn't been sacked. Great thread title.

Not sure if it would be "the biggest tragedy in football'', compared to Heysel, Hillsboro, Bradford, Munich etc. Or even as bad as what's happened to our own club a few years ago.

This would appear the most likely outcome. It allows all parties to save a little face. Plus, Wenger seems to like the strategic planning/goal setting side of things.

As I am not an Arsenal fan, who cares?

Is the correct answer-still for the purpose of good humour,Wenger inherited an very experienced, mainly English defence, but they were getting on a bit, rode his luck for a number of years and never really replaced them, culminating in 5 years without a Title...if any facts are wrong then i apologize,i only follow the Albion.

He won't be sacked for a while, Arsenal fans have had good times under his management and they need to remember they were a mid-table side at the begining of the premier league up until he took over

At this rate, they'll be back there before too much longer.

i'd be really quite surprised. who would they replace him with? they are pragmatic at Arsenal and leav it to the end of the season, or at least until such a time as Champions Leauge next season was ruled out (though their budget apparently allows for 3 CL runs in 4 years).

The only criticism you can have of Wenger is that he hasn't signed any replacements or a centre half. But Arsenal have a wage structure which means players like Phil Jones and Juan Mata decide to move elsewhere obviously not Wengers fault.

hasnt made any substantial signings, let alone replacements. you have to move forward, which he has done with bringing through some quality players, but in key areas he simply hasnt had the talent in the pipeline, but failed to buy. the money and wage structure is side show, he was told year before last he had a blank cheque by Usmanov to sort the CB and holding midfield roles and did nothing. if you dont speak to clubs about a player, how can you even enter into wage negotiations? comically this summer he's brought a prospective winger, a position hardly needed, for £15m while haggling over a sum less than that for a decent defender he desperatly needs. it *is* Wenger's fault that he doesnt seem to think he needs certain types of players in key positions.

relevance to us? Gus has a very similar approach to how the game should be played, but one key player brought in was Greer. i hope, if needed, he would bring in some a bit tougher in the midfield too as required. you have to make compromises to the perfect ideal in order to get results.
