Argus NIMBY-slaying

I'm not Mr White, I don't live in Falmer. We could quite easily argue that voting in any election makes no difference to anything. Therefore the anti-Falmer people didn't vote because regardless of the outcome it will be built one way or another. As has almost been proved. We can say for certain that the majority did not vote in favour of the stadium because they stayed away from the poll.

Okay then - what's your agenda then, why are you interested in getting involved - in short; what's in it for you?

Honest answer please, I'm not asking for a veiled version of your agendas, you say you have nothing to hide. Tell me why you are even pursuing this subject?

The same democratic process returned the Lewes Lib Dems to power a couple of months ago. Yet you seem happy to laud their victory - with a lower turnout as a triumph for democracy (I'm paraphrasing of course).

You can't have it both ways.

Put it this way, 32% of 38% of the electorate voted against the stadium at Falmer. That 12.16% of the population. Even more so, 16% of the 38% voted against a stadium at all. That's just over 6% of the electorate.

I would ask another question to anti-Falmer? Are you only anti-Falmer stadium, or anti-stadium anywhere?

antifalmer started out so well... he put forward his reasons against the site in a clear manner. But as soon as people start to question these, he can't justify himself. Picking and choosing when democracy is significant (not to mention comparing building a stadium to re-introducing capital punishment!). Then stating that Prescott went against the advice of the Public Enquiries, even when the last inspector clearly stated that there was nowhere else for the stadium.

When considering whether Falmer is the best site, the Communities department unfortunately (for antifalmer) have to take into account ALL available information, they cannot pick and choose which bits they want to heed and which bits they want to ignore. And that is why Falmer is likely to get the go ahead.

I thought he did well to link that! As you say he started out well and he might be able to bully those DULLARDS on the Argus forums, but he's playing with the big boys now!

... Actually just thinking about it further - he's wrong on the 'Capital Punishment' allegory as well. For issues like that there is possibly a dichotomy between what the people (might) want and what the politicians are prepared to allow. However for the stadium we are as one: people, MPs and Councillors are all in favour! As DKM and TLO have pointed out that is a bit of a pesky nuisance when you're trying to claim that the stadium isn't wanted.

The letter below appeared in the Argus today.

Falmer development rat
How convenient it is that the boundaries of the proposed national park has been so precisely changed to exclude Falmer. And yet include much more already built-up areas. I smell a rat.

Its not a rat Andy, its YOU. You've spent too long in your musty bedroom watching the X-files and Kennedy conspiracy documentaries. Leave your room, have a wash and go enjoy the sunshine while it lasts.

This is unbelievable / amazingly ignorant on your part... to repeat, you CANNOT assume that the people who didn't vote would have voted against the stadium... the best assumption you can make is that the non-voters would have been split as per the voters in the for/against stadium debate...:angry:

Yes indeed. He's been spouting his bizarre analysis ( which he presents as fact ) of the referendum on other boards for ages... Doesn't realise how dim it makes his arguments look.:dunce:

In pretty much the same way that the majority of eligible voters in the local elections did not vote in favour of LDC? The same LDC who claim to be representing their electorate in their bigotted opposition to a community stadium? The same LDC who are spending ALL council tax payers' money without having the majority's approval?

We can say for certain that the majority in Lewes are not against the stadium because they stayed away from the local election.

It's not a trick question antifalmer, why come on here with a short and inane, repugnant nose-thumbing, when you are asked to address questions pertinent to your agenda, and your endgame.

You have all the time in the world, but please don't make up some evasive convoluted bull - get to the point.

Septic is King Nimby-he only deals in evasive convoluted bullshit, as any reader of the Arsegas and its forums will testify. I suspect he is DeVagi's photographer bashing lover.

If most people in Brighton and Hove don't support the stadium, as claimed, isn't it remarkable that NONE of the political parties in Brighton and Hove have campaigned against it in the council elections (either this year, or earlier).

Not even the Green Party - if you read their local manifesto.

I have to stand up for Septic here (difficult as I find it) because Basher Freeman is barely capable of joined up writing on those occasions when his hands aren't occupied with bashing. Unlike Septic who has produced enough verbiage to fill an AONB twice over.

But...but...but...

The reason why the NIMBYs get slated is not because they've put up cogent, well-articulated arguments.

For 10 years they've lied, they've misconstrued, they've made unsubstantiated claims, they've doctored photos, they've spread malicious rumours, they've deliberately strung out the process, they've stalled, they've been underhand and they've done this with other people's (taxpayers) money.

They have tried to run the club out of existence and for that they are total bastards in my eyes. One or two graceful acknowledgements now and a conciliatory gesture from Norman Baker do not change the last 10 years of vitriol.

I and many, many other Albion fans and Sussex residents hate them for what they've done. They surely can't expect anything else considering.
couldn't have put it any better
