Brain dead MUG SHEEP
On todays letters page. Jees.
I am writing to applaud Lewes District Council and to wish them well in their ongiong battle to save the South Downs from this so-called "soccer stadium" which is so desired by Brighton Albion football club. Having seen the pictures of the space-age monstrosity they want to drop on top of Falmer village, I was filled with a deep sense of outrage and horror at the notion that anyone could think of besmirching this peaceful little corner of paradise which is treasured by so many, and at the same time, strangely, by so few. I notice the Albion club have yet again been relegated into the Cherry Coca Cola League, and having struggled along with gates of 4,000 for so long, I am at a loss as to understand why all of a sudden they feel the need for a 25,000 seater "super stadium" around their new football pitch. Is this so that the few remaining fans who go to watch "soccer" can drag their reluctant relatives and spouses along too ? Or do they want to selfishly sit with their legs stretched out along several seats ?
I can only hope and pray that common sense prevails when the chairman and directors of Albion are summonsed to the High Court in London for sentencing later this year. With a wise and sympathetic jury, I would forcast Messrs. Knight and his cronies be sent down for no less than 5 years, and be released only under a suspended sentence telling them not to try to build any more football grounds. Perhaps then we can all continue to enjoy our rural tranquility safe in the knowledge it will not be invaded by the likes of soccer people and their incessant non-rhyming songs, flags and tattoos.
