I'm not sure if it was the Argus that broke the news first, on 1st November 1973, but nevertheless:

The Walton & Hersham and Bristol Rovers shambles followed shortly thereafter.

Meopham, Kent.
And 40 years on, Palace may be lining up young Nigel.

I shook his hand outside the North stand that day. I was 15. He said to me " you're a very cheeky young man aren't you?" as I shoved my way to the front. Starstruck or what?

I was only 5 so cannot remember anything about it, however, 3p for an extra special Evening Argus, bargain! :)

Yep, I was there. 40 years ago though, wow doesn't time fly. Remember that eight goal drubbing as I walked out from my South Stand season ticket (wooden bench) seat at half time in disgust. Sat at Hove station for an hour waiting for a train.
