I am far from a usual conspiricist theory merchant, see I cannot even spell it, but are we really going to continue to fall for this fear/control culture? Kids in UK wear hiviz just to walk down the street in school activities, according to the above charity they are all in fear of crime and/or assault, FFS UK, get past this junk. You still live in one of the best countries in the world, with freedom of speech, choice and movement! Stop falling for the doom mongers lies, in my day it was the kids doing the crime! George Orwell was before his time in foretelling the dumbing down of society via propaganda.

And discuss.........

If you are going to link an article for discussion, at least quote the article correctly.

Among 10 to 17-year-olds, almost 40% worry about crime and are particularly fearful of theft, being followed by a stranger or being assaulted.

I get where you're coming from and whilst it's a sad inditement of the relative state of society I think it's an inevitable consequence of the blame culture that's developed rather than an overriding safety consideration.

I can't believe you are not taking this more seriously.

For me it was those cola bottles.

For me it was someone taking me off to Australia and then still keep harping on about how rubbish the UK is

It's the victim mentality a lot of people have now.

One teenage girl told the charity: "[They're] blowing kisses, men beeping, standing asking [your] age, whistling, shouting, stopping vans next to you, asking for [your] number."

Yeah, that behaviour is definitely just "victim mentality".

Once more, I take my hat off to you, well done madam. If only being a pedant could be made a crime.

We 'record' and 'discuss' matters endlessly today, that's the key difference.

Eg "1970s - child gets into playground fight, gets home, mentions to Dad, "did you hit 'em back? harder? if not why not?" The End.

Eg "2017 - child becomes a 'victim' then a 'survivor' of playground fight, recorded on smartphone by fellow pupil (sorry 'student') at school (sorry 'Academy'), uploaded to social media, goes viral, generates hundreds of phone in's worldwide about safety of children, hysterical online debates break out by the million, including on PREMIER LEAGUE football chat sites, and unintentionally leads to mass trolling of child 'survivor' who thenhas to seek mental health treatment of which there isn't enough of so really it's all Theresa May's fault and none of this would happen under Labour / Liberal governments or if we stayed in EU (NB there's no 'The End' this time because it's on the Internet and keeps getting bounced for years after)

I had a couple of lads try to mug me after a cricket match when I was a kid. Not the smartest kids as I pulled my bat out the bag and they ran off

I knew it was always a possibility growing up but to say it was my biggest fear would be lying

As with all of these surveys, let's see the raw data. Where did they survey these kids? What were the actual questions. Until I see that I will assume it is sensationalist crap

Also the article doesn't say where these children were interviewed and how and why.

Was there a questionnaire with a/b/c answers given out in schools in certain areas?

We all know that statistics can be manufactured/manipulated to suit an agenda - then the headlines are thrown around as gospel.

I also hate "78% of 67 women ask like a certain hair product" why not ask another 33 to get a minimal 100 number, why not ask 1000 people?

Where I grew up was the "street robbery capital of the UK" at the time. Had to have your wits about you that's for sure but didn't stop me going out or doing anything. Few times older kids tried to rob me but I either ran off or had a fight. Guess it's different seeing as kids all have iPhones and Beats headphones worth £100s on them now as all I had was maybe a Casio watch and my bus pass.
