There might well be globally, nothing anyone can do to address it.

At the moment numbers are globally rising faster than resources are able to support however war or disease could wipe out many millions historically this has moderated human numbers

The Donald will deal directly with any fears you may have, on this issue.

Carry on breeding obvs. On it’s current trajectory the planet will have imploded by the end of the century so let’s breed like there’s no tomorrow because there isn’t!!

Maybe. But three things to consider:

1. What matters is the overall impact not the numbers. The key problem is consumption not population and the vast majority of that consumption still happens in rich countries, where population is not growing.

2. As others have said, there is little that can be done. But not because of religion culture etc (Italy has the opposite problem - a shrinking population) but because the population trajectory is set already based on the people that have already been born (the video explains this brilliantly - it's not obvious until it is explained...and then it is very obvious). It will peak globally around 11bn and then, very likely, fall. So there is very little we can do that would make any difference to numbers. We just have to manage the impact. In terms of technology we can manage that. But only with strong interventions in the market and far greater equality. So we may indeed to be stuffed - but because of poor politics, not population.

3. Even if we did decide we wanted to 'manage' population growth, there are few options that have been proven to work beyond the obvious, and these are long term. Decent and accessible health care (this includes access to contraception btw - it needs to be part of a good primary healthcare system) . Education (especially for girls), improved economic opportunities etc. The China one child policy was only possible with a draconiam, totalitarian state. And even then there are doubts whether it was actually effective, certainly outside of the major cities.

Yes.

Britain could soon become like China did and call me old fashioned but I think you should be at least engaged or married before spitting out a sprog. :)

China enforced the one-child policy which resulted in baby girls being abandoned to orphanages, as rural Chinese preferred boys to work for the family.

They also got fined if a second baby was born, which resulted in rich people having two children, whilst poor people were made poorer by the fine.

Same at Homebase.

It does seem we need MORE humans doesn't it?

Superstore training teaches them to avoid eye contact & customers & to have a 6th sense that when someone needs some help to disappear into the depths of another department

If you look at it dispassionately, the problem with the number of humans is their very humanity. We give to charities to help alleviate famines, we send aid to victims of natural disasters and we take in refugees from armed conflicts. If we acted with cold logic, we would let all these people get on with it and accept it all as a natural thinning out of the world population.

I was looking for the poll option brown babies bad, wrinkly old white folk?, shut up we were here first.

Most experts expect world population to peak sometime in the next 35-100 years. There is already a steep decline in the number of fertile females and some are suggesting that there will never be more infants on the planet than there are today.

The robots are coming as well. Soon we'll be watching a starting
11 for the Albion including a robot and being ref'd by a robot in the
exact form of Mike Dean. The beauty of the latter of course is that we can
unplug the ******* *****r.
