Sussex CCC is delighted to announce that Yasir Arafat has agreed to return to Sussex for the 2010 season.

Yasir played a big part in Sussex’s one-day success during 2009, as the side won both the NatWest Pro40 and Twenty20 competitions. The club also finished runners-up in the Friends Provident Trophy.

Yasir’s contribution was 24 wickets at an average of 25.83 in List A matches and he also took 15 wickets at an average of 14.00 in Twenty20 matches, going at just 6.08 an over.

Yasir Arafat said: "I’m delighted to be coming back to Sussex for the 2010 season. When I played my first year at the club in 2006, I was determined to return in the future. I did that last season and enjoyed every minute of it. Although we did not do so well in the Championship, our one-day form was tremendous and it was a joy to be part of that. I look forward to 2010 and returning to a great bunch of players, coaching staff and supporters with a view to improving on 2009.”

Mike Yardy, Sussex CCC Captain, said: “Yasir played an integral part in our successes last season and it is great for us to secure him for 2010. He is a huge team man, who has a great influence in the dressing room.”

I can understand this as we are light of quality seamers but he needs to sort his bowling out in the 4 day game HOWEVER we have no wicket takers now Chawla has left. Unless Robinson has something up his sleeve with an English qualified strike bowler we're never going to take 20 wickets.

Not signing Chawla means that our young spinners should get a game next season.
I imagine he will sign for Slurrey now.

Yasir's good, Chawla looked like being the new Mushy. Our young spinners will simply need to step up.

Not sure how much of a team man Chawla is - he refused to stay in the same hotel as the rest of team and the club had to offer him three better hotels before he was happy with one.

Smith could comeback for the T20 competition as you are allowed two OSPs in that competion I believe.

but what if another county signs him as their overseas player? can he play for them and then us in just the T20's?

That cant be right?

Possibly - would depend on the contract with the other county.
We may also have to sign another player if Arafat gets called up for Pakistan so things can change quite a bit.

I can see why. Chawla looked fantastic in his first spell, but didn't look like a lomited overs bowler, and in Beer and Rayner we've got very good spinners. Arafat had a very poor CC season but he's done it in the past. Dwayne's a little too inconsistent and will probably be away with the West Indies for mcuh of the season.

why the link between Hoggard and Panesar?

No I mean, if we're not going for Chawla and we're not spending big on Hoggard, then they might have made an offer for Panesar

I cant see Monty fitting in with the Sussex way. I mean players that are strong in at least two areas (batting, bowling and fielding)

After the Champions League, it is obvious Robbo doesnt think the players are fit enough, even though they are probably one of the fittest teams in England.

Monty has only just learned how to hold a bat up, and his lask of mobility in the field will mean he wont fit in well with the squad. It would be good to have him around, but I think WAT Beer is just as good, and could be better than our Monty friend.

ps, I miss Dwayne already (even if he is a Man utd fan)

OIC. Perhaps we have a litte more cash to splash as Matty is now on a central and Look Right is on an incremental.

Well I hope we don't sign Panesar, that's just what was one various sites last week. With Beer, Rayner, Yardy and RHB (and even Nash) we've enough spinners. Tremlett would be interesting, Hants have done what UB wanted and signed Simon Jones
