I'm currently beginning a (doubtless to fail) attempt to FINALLY shift some blooming Uni excess and have noticed the new gym on Madeira drive called THE GYM. I don't care about pools, steam rooms etc.

Does anyone here use it? For £16 it looks a STEAL compared to the one I pay for which is double the price and SO uninspiring that I do nothing when I do go.

Not really considering what I pay for Withdean at the moment, £40 pm/ £30 joining fee and the fact that Withdean is absolutely awful. It's too small, they have hardly any decent equipment and I could not have ever imagined you could fit so many DICKHEADS into such a small space.

I use Withdean and do not see a problem with it at all, quite friendly and never really that busy

I am mates with quite a few people there and yes I agree it is friendly. However it is way too small and has, especially compared to this knew place, inadequate equipment. There are as well a number of idiots who insist on using the weights/machine's (particularly the Smith) for about 30 minutes which is so f***ing selfish and has ruined my workouts many a time, to the point where I nearly punched someone...

I believe the gym Is 24 hours also which suits me as I'm getting back very late at the moment plus would be nice to head there early if ever up early

got a few mates that use it and they say its well worth is. no contract so you can leave whenever. when you think that david lloyd gym is 70 quid a month and 50 quid joining fee.

This is a newish chain I believe, no frills but decent amount of equipment and open 24 hours. My mate has just joined the Manchester one and is impressed with the value for £16 per month.

24 hour gym? That would be quality.

Unfortuantely round my way i've only got La Fitness, Spirit and Fitness First type chains that shut at 10pm monday to thursday, 8pm fridays and 6pm weekends. Crap when you work the hours I do and guaranteed to be overly busy between 5pm and 10pm.

The price sounds a bargain too, I pay £42 a month at La Fitness and that is cheap compared to the others round here

Yes I highly recommend. I joined right when it very first opened so I pay £9.99 p/m which for the size of the place and considering it's a whole new build, brand new modern equipment is supoib.

Upstairs you've got all the cardio stuff mainly so that's where the women and fatties hang out, downstairs is the hardcore stuff where the posers, prettyboys and meatheads hog the mirrors (where you'll find me). You can normally get on most of the equipment easily too although I tend not to go between 5-8 when it's at it's busiest.

Bearing in mind proximity to Kemp Town, the showers can be a bit daunting too.
