Worthing
I don’t see a problem here. We wanted to be a part of the whole circus years back………. Didn’t we ?

I'm sure its not as simple as this......but if the Prem were to decide the fixture list and tell the tv companies to bid on it as it is, then probably that would mean that they would bid a Billion or so less money. If all that would mean is that players would get paid slightly less outrageous salaries and transfer fees were to drop a bit, then that doesn't seem like too bad a thing. I've said this before on this board without generating much traction I suppose because it is too simple a view or because folks just ( correctly ) think that it will never happen.

I’m guessing you gave home games day and night at Gillingham a swerve during the Gory years too. 28000 of fhe current crowds did as well in fairness.

What's that got to do with these kick off times making a proper away day totally impractical, massively impinging on the family Christmas celebrations of home fans who live a good long way away and the Saudis being welcomed so that we can have yet more money and yet more hubris in a game that's already eating itself?

I went to a few but I didn't go to all of them, The ones I went to were a 3pm Saturday kick off

What’s a proper awayday ? I’ve been going to London evening games for years often after work and don’t drink. And then get home before midnight and drink a cup of tea. Is this what you mean ?

I think enough people will be unofficially boycotting it cos they can no longer effing go. Brentford fans must be fuming too

How many Brentford fans do you think will be working in Brighton on Boxing Day?

Not a criticism but it sounds like you’d be happier if we still were in League One, 3pm kickoffs are a rarity in the PL and Sky (providing the money for us to buy the quality of players we have) is the reason. I do get what you are saying but for me it’s an annoyance but we can’t have our cake and eat it. Yes Boxing Day at 8pm is not ideal I agree but I expect it to be a cracker of a game if both teams continue in the way they’ve started the season. If we were playing Burnley I’d probably be less enthusiastic.

Boycott though? Nah. I did it but I struggled to boycott the Mansfield (?) game under Archer

The dull part of the south coast
Brighton have regularly had evening games for decades, been in the PL for 5 years, and played in the evening on Boxing Day only a few years ago. So why now ?
Not saying it’s ok either - just reminding this nsc thread of others freely posting adamant predictions of no trains or transport whatsoever that that’s not the case.

I checked - there is no train service scheduled for Southern on Boxing Day Sunday. Whether there will be a special dispensation for providing transport for fans, well, your guess is as good as mine. I look forward to what the club have to say regarding transport services, even if that service is somewhat limited.

P.S. The bit about no Southern trains that day was from the Trainline site. I tried Southern’s site and got nothing, I will try again and hopefully it will cough up some sort of info.

They’re going to Brighton. It’s a hour or so away.
Is it really that daunting a journey. ?
(There will be multiple coaches, buses and bespoke trains and extra car parking. The next day is a bank holiday so no work for most )

Are we boycotting West Ham (a) at 745pm next month ?

I’m not suggesting it’s ideal but if you’re against the toxicity of tv money, the premier league, and the how fans are looked after then why this ? And why now ?

I imagine a lot of wives/girlfriends are tonight busy 'planning' the boycott on their partners behalf :tantrum:

Where did I mention supporting a boycott? I'm not going to go because I will be at my friend's place as I have been every Boxing Day since our kids were old enough to amuse themselves knee deep in spirits, good food and silly games. If you want to accept 8pm Boxing Day games as the new normal knock yourself out but you're not exactly Mr Maximum Attendance yourself are you? Quite fond of a small river.

But, actually, that's the point. These days when NFL Game Pass can stream every game and make money doing it and when anyone who can install IPTV or a VPN can stream any game they want, there's literally no point in the staggered kick off times except Sky and BT keeping an unsustainable monopoly.

The only time I don’t make a home game is when I’m abroad, I haven’t been around for a game this season but I’m back for City and every other home game for the forseeable

I do arrange match days around a stream when I can’t make a game though, and have watched every game home and away this season apart from a cup game that I couldn’t get on a stream

I doubt I’d have managed that if we weren’t in the PL

Here's a thought. For those whinging once again, instead of organizing a boycott of the club you supposedly support, why not cancel your sky subscriptions (I'm guessing most of you have one judging by the comments).

So you've got an excuse for not going to home games in the amazing Premier League with the amazing Coach and yet you're grilling people as to why they weren't doing a 140 mile round trip to watch a side 91st in the league.

Yet at the same time you're saying the former is unmissable and the latter is a hair shirt worn by a select few?
