I'm tired of Labour apologies, and I'm equally weary of Cameron's constant gimmick-pulling. Why should a bunch of crooked MPs ripping off the public suddenly become a cause for an election? He's always quick to use the media to suggest HE "said (everything) first".

I agree but it is certainly an improvement on any of those countries previous records.

For example, the Poland we got into WW2 for was heading down the road of anti-semitism without Berlin's prodding.

And surprisingly, in many of those countries, reformed Social Democratic parties have indeed come to power.

Greater competition in markets, more choice of goods, increased labour mobility, specialisation in production, outsourcing by countries to poorer countries. Those tend to the 'standard' benefits of free trade.

Whilst i am left wing politically I cannot agree with some of the claims in the broadcast, the EU may have free market laws, but it is down to each member state as to how they interpret them.
The French haven't privatised the railways, gas, electric and water utilities have they? The French have also not liberalised their postal system like we have done.
Our f***ed up governments (Tory and New Labour) are the ones to really blame as they are the ones who chose to lead this country down the road of mass privatisation.

Domestically, shifting from jobs that have no real future because they can be done cheaper abroad. Basically, the theory of comparative advantage.

Consumers here get a better deal because lower costs for a firm should be reflected in lower prices.

I'm not preaching a message of 'free trade is infallible'; just that I believe, for the most part, free trade is beneficial.

Free trade is beneficial as long as there are controls to stop the exploitation of workers in 1st World and 3rd World countries.
Consumers don't get a better deal all the time though do they? Has the privatisation of the gas industry made prices go down in real terms in this country as compared to somewhere like Germany? Whilst the Germans store their gas in the summer for winter, thereby getting cheaper gas, in Britain our privatised companies have done very little in the way of expanding our storage. Why do they do this, because they are owned by foreign companies who have an interest to sell their stored gas to us at a high price during the winter.
As I said in a previous post I am left wing, but I do still see the need to have capitalism too, I just think it needs to be controlled more and that essential services like public transport, gas, water, electricity, refuse collection, the postal service and the health service should all be state owned.

I just meant that however you definie democratic, the EU inspired project since 1989 is far better than 1918-39. I am aware of the many mitigating circumstances but it is the only past example we have to go on.

And I meant no criticism of the Poles, I know it was only a small percentage of them, just their feckless regime at the time was trying to placate the right with punitive actions.
