Is anyone planning to travel up to London for the funeral next Monday?
I would like to take my 18 month old daughter to experience the moment in history, but as we live near Manchester it's a massive effort and I'm worried we could end up doing it all to get nowhere near the actual funeral procession.

We'd have to travel down to Brighton on Sunday and then look at getting up to London on the Monday morning.

Will thier be trains? Will they be full? Am I stupid for even contemplating it with a young child. Nappies to change etc.

Anyone else planning to go and thought of plans yet?

Anyone ever been to a huge event in London before got any experiences worthwhile sharing?

I remember people who felt they needed to be at Princess Di’s funeral. I think they got to within a couple of miles

I would say your daughter would be happier if you took her to a local park or small meet the animals type of family farm.

dont do it. your 18mth wont remember and your memory will be of huge crowds, not seeing anything behind dozens deep along the route, mental busy tube and transport with hundreds of thousands not having a clue what to do. you'll see far more on telly, get family&friends round to make an occasion of it.

Depends on what you hope to get out of it I suppose, is it just a case of actually being there in person to experience it and build a memory or do you think it’s the right thing to do?

I’m only 40 mins away on the train and would even contemplate it, even if we offloaded the kids. It will be chaotic, there will be too many people that the route can cater for and there’s a very good chance you won’t see anything. There’s then also the leaving of the bubble. Patience with a child in tow will be needed

Have a look at the route and see if there’s any hotels etc offering viewing platforms etc (will be a premium obviously)

Personally will watch on the TV with the kids as will actually see what’s happening and the commentary is often useful for the kids to stay engaged.

Junior, I live within 30 minutes of Charing Cross Station by train and there is no way in the word I'd consider going up that
day. It's going to be nigh on impossible to see anything because of the crowds. Unless you camp over night.

No chance. You won't get anywhere near, and you won't see anything anyway. There will the people camping out on the route for days before.

I agree. I was three when the King died, but don’t remember any of it.
You’ll see more on tv, so watch at home, and buy a newspaper for your daughter to read when she’s older if she likes history.

Stay at home and watch it on the telly box.
No stress and worries to your kiddie or yourself.
London will be rammed that day and being a BH transport will be limited.
