Preston?

Something to do with their being the first ever League Champions (I'm sure I remember having heard that somewhere).

Reading have also got a new away kit and 3rd kit... but they shouldn't have bothered. Why? A strange by-law says that Reading don't ever have to wear an away kit as they are 'the royal team'. Preston also share the no-away-kit-needed ruling as they won the first league title or something. There you have it. Everyday's a school day with Who Ate All The Pies!

So, given that one plays in blue and white, and the other in white with blue trim, what happens when they play each other, and they both try to invoke the rule?

They probably toss a coin or something.

I think Notts county is the likely answer, as they are the oldest profesional football club in the world I believe.

So is that the real reason we played Reading at the Goldstone in the early nineties wearing our fetching "Chewit wrapper" away kit? And I'd heard the official reason was that Reading had forgotton to bring their away kit and refused to wear ours when the ref asked them to change!

All makes sense now......

The reason on that particular occasion was because Reading's home strip that season was blue and white hoops, as usual. In a stroke of genius, their away strip was blue and yellow hoops, massively different as you can imagine.

When they turned up at the Goldstone, their retarded kit man realised in horror that the blue in their away kit astonishingly clashed with the blue in our home kit, and the ref, not unfairly, decided they couldn't wear it.

Sponsor issues dictated that we ended up pretty in pink that day.

Same happened with Derby at Withdean a couple of seasons back, they brought the wrong kit and were going to end up wearing ours. However, they had a black training strip with them, & after a quick trip to the Albion shop to get names & numbers printed, hey presto, they played in black.

There is a persistent urban legend that as a "royal" club, Reading have the honour of being allowed to wear their home kit regardless of the opposition and venue. This has no basis in fact, and the legend's origin is unclear.[13]

Therefore, it is rubbish. In any case, can you imagine a modern day football club only bringing out one replica kit per season? Where would the profits come from then?
