Anyone know much about living in Oxford ?

Just been asked to manage a project at Oxford Airport for 6 months, anyone know much about the place, nice areas to rent property etc ?

I had a look on the net and Abingdon looks like quite a nice little place on the Thames.

I've heard despite the uni and that, its quite pikey ?

Any (sensible) answers appreciated.

Avoid Blackbird Leys.

The city centre is lovely, but outside that I always found it a bit of a chavvy place. But there are worse places to live. Hook up with some wet-behind-the-ears, seriously loaded nymphomaniac university thing from Virginia Water, and you'll be dandy.

Abingdon is Dullsville.

I lived there for four years, whilst studying at Brookes. Some parts are very Pikey!

Blackbird Leys is an awful place. Stay well away!

Difficult to give you great advice without knowing your budget, but there are some lovely places to live. Kidlington is not bad and there are some nice places in Jericho (which is quite central). Or even Woodstock is pleasant.

My ex-flatmate currently lives in Oxford, so I could get some more up to date advice for you.

I lived in the area for a few years, and yes, it is pikey and the locals can be very unfriendly. I would suggest out towards Woodstock, Church Hanborough, Yarnton as nicer areas, even Witney. But don't get your hopes up, it's all pretty pants, don't know why, but the term "inbread wankers who I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire" comes to mind.

it is quite pikie, but most of them are condensed into one area, so as long as you avoid that should be ok

apart from that, it is supposed to be pretty good
