If so please tell them to stop using 'podium' and 'medal' as verbs. They are NOT and it's pissing me off.

Hmmm, quite a long time where there are semi-finals and finals in events, I would have thought. Doesn't it happen on the boxing ? I don't recall a 3rd/4th place box-off, but I may be wrong.
