Anyone know about ethernet powerline adapters?

Wondered if anyone has used these before? I have recently bought a pair and once connected they're great - only problem is they take ages to connect to the Internet! Sometimes get a message about an IP address. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

I see what you mean. What's annoying is that they occasionally work first time, so there is not always an obvious pattern.

We use 4 of these (Comtrend Powerline) around the house without any problems. We leave them connected and powered on all the time, and I have never seen then need to reconnect to each other.

What do you mean by 'ages' and are you turning them off/on each time you use them ?

If they're in a power strip, that causes havoc with them, especially surge protector ones. Best to let them have a wall socket to themselves.

Second that!

Only problem I ever had was due to it being in a power strip. I get full bandwidth with my router downstairs and PC connected through the mains ethernet adapter

I started with two Belkin Powerline AV plugs and they work really well - no problems. However, the third one I've added recently (in another room) is not so good. Connection keeps breaking. All the plugs are directly in sockets and not power strips so not sure what the problem is.

It can take up to an hour to get onto the Internet. I don't leave them switched on all the time, only when I'm using them.
