Worthing
Thinking of buying a DAB widgit with an ariel for my car, starting to get bored of listening to just Radio 2.

I tried my friend's portable DAB with a long extension cable to act as an ariel but to be fair the reception was bloody awful.

Anyone here got one and has experience of using it around B&H and up twards gatwick way ?

We used on of those Pure Highway things and it was fine until we actually stuck the aerial to the window, then it was gash. Dunno why, the rain sensitive stuff in the windscreen or something. Now just use my portable DAB plugged in to the AUX input. It's better on main roads than tree lined avenues.

I can't even receive DAB radio at home in Horsham, let alone on the move.

I was wondering this the other day. Would like to get a Digital radio for my office but borrowed one to test the signal and it was shit. Then it got me thinking about how they are going to work in cars as surely they're going to be even worse?

I've got four DAB radios indoors and have just got a car with a factory fitted DAB.

Absolutely bloomin' fantastic.
I couldn't manage without DAB radio and having it in the car is fantastic. Planetrock, Five Live Xtra and five live without retuning every five minutes.

Retuning - isn't that what RDS does? which is standard on most FM car radios.

Admittedly DAB has different stations, but not necessarily better ones. Most of the radio stations that i would want to listen to are on FM.

Fivelive is on medium wave so having to retune between 693 and 909 can be a pain. But yes on fm rds can locate alternative frequencies.

One thing I will say is try a couple of them.

I've got two at home a Sony one and a Pure one. The Pure one can get twice as many stations as the Sony one can from it's built in aerial.

A thing to remember is, the DAB in brighton and surrounding area comes from the whitehawk hill transmitter as does freeview, so if you are at quite low ground you may not be able to recieve it. For example my nan in patcham cant recieve freeview or dab.
