I think they have been spending money they didn't have for quite a while now. It's a shame that they achieved their goal of playing in the Blue Square Premier but can't afford to stay there.

Appointing KK was definitely shooting themselves in the foot. I can see why they did it but the fans were hardly going to jump with joy at having a manager with no managerial experience.

Ultimately they don't have the fan base to support football at this level. Clubs like Lewes and Eastbourne have no real football heritage, that's why they end up taking 11 fans to Wrexham and 16 to Northwich. Unless someone is pumping money in they cannot survive. Eastbourne are lucky that they have the bowls club etc.
Whats the bowls club got to do with it, about 5%.
Eastbourne have average gates of 1,300 the club is in the black and neverbeen in the red, it is a thriving community asset boasting a 5,600 capacity stadium including a 600 seat stand; seven executive suites, Legends Lounge, conference and seminar facilities in the impressive Clubhouse which can accommodate between 150 and 200 depending on the type of function; Langney Sports Club with over 2000 members; indoor bowls hall (with over 600 members); a youth football section with over 400 youngsters between 6 and 18 spread over 30 teams; archery club, tai chi classes, over 60's week day club, bingo evenings for locals, computer classes for beginners and a nursery.
Plus people have bought shares in the club being a Community Interest Club.
Dont say we are like Lewes we are chalk and cheese.
Eastbourne have cashflow from the Langney Sports complex and reasonable gates.
Lewes cashflow at the moment is only 350 supporters once a fortnight.
Out of the FA Cup and no other revenue
No wonder they are in trouble

Can't they have a whip around at bonfire night?

They could have easily stayed up had they not got rid of a successful managaer and squad and replaced them with a bunch of average county league players.

It's not too late, but who is going to invest now?

surely the financial problem stems more from the fact that under steve king, they spent a lot of money that was obviously above their limits enticing players down from london, as opposed to the fact they have lost a few games this season?

just goes to show that long term sustainability - getting a side together over time of local players who want to do well for a club, is far better in the long run than chucking money that a club doesnt have on players who dont really care about the club. just a shame lewes didnt look at eastbourne as the way to go about it earlier

A football club registration 1 division below football league. If somebody with more money than sense wanted to buy a football club and do a Wimbledon or Wigan and go to the Premier in a short time, like Gretna did in Scotland then to buy Lewes is ideal as you have a foot firmly on the ladder rather than if you tried it with Burgess Hill, Worthing or Bognor or similar.

Perhaps HB&B could invest his redundancy, as he will now receive jack shit in a savings account (unless he had the sence to get a fixed rate)

i know little about Steve King but obviously the Lewes board felt that the club would not survive financially with him as manager. KK might not be the man for the job but Lewes' plight didn't start in the summer - the foundations for financial disaster had been firmly embedded before that.

Makes me laugh when people talk about the Conference as being Micky Mouse. Many clubs in the Conf are better run and more financially secure that a lot of league clubs. Added to that the players are better off.
